Topic title pretty much says it all.

I'm looking for an engine block with no serial number. I don't care what year it will be, I'm not interested in blocks with -removed- numbers, I only need factory numberless block - I'm pretty sure those are not excessively rare and someone has to have one.

Oh, and damaged or defective ones might work too - depends on type of damage.
Please say your price.

EDIT: Just to let you know, the reason for me to look for one is total, absurd stupidity of local DMV.
My project car has been imported and registered here in 1994. Back then, there were almost zero of 928's here, so noone knew where to look for an engine number - and they just wrote "engine number absent" in "vehicle passport" - but there actually WAS an engine number, just not too easy to reach! So, when I recently tried to change the registration, they actually knew where to look and obviously found the engine serial. But, since the paperwork clearly shows that this number is absent, while it actually is there - they refused to change registration. It seems the only option I have now - is to stuff a numberless block in there and present it to a DMV inspection like that...

Totally blank blocks are very rare if they even exist outside factory.

And well, if I won't manage to get one, I might have to just sue the DMV and pray for the best. The level of idiotic bureaucracy here is totally frustrating.

Depends on its condition and whether you're selling it or not.
If you're only willing to "lend" it - it most likely won't work since I'm on the other side of the globe and shipping it both ways would be too risky and quite expensive.

As for condition: if it's nice 5-liter with good bores - I'd prolly just assemble a proper engine in it. On the other hand, if its of lower displacement or damaged somehow - I'd assemble a "junk" engine in it and slap it into car - just to be able to present it to DMV as a non-runner and register the car in my name; after that I'll just replace it with my spare S4 engine and be done with it.

+1 on the cost front, this is the way to go.

However I suspect most machine shops would be somewhat wary of machining off the identifying numbers from a block?

The un-marked block is a 4.7l (97mm) engine. It's semi-scrap as the girdle doesn't match the block. I've collected a couple more in case I want to have one machined to work. The block itself is beautiful with clean bores and zero corrosion. Looks used, but just barely.

Shipping a block is costly. It's like 110 pounds.

Actually I shipped a block (one of the unmarked ones above) from Texas to Honolulu for about $200. I was amazed.

Machining off the number is illegal, that's why I'm looking for factory one.
And yeah, I'm aware that shipping won't be cheap - but I need just a bare block, even w/o girdle (I have 4.7 girdle sitting in my garage).

Alex, is it possible to go back to Porcshe and get documentation of the car and its options, perhaps along with engine number?

Yep, that's what I'm gonna try next - but I've heard that Porsche is not willing to share that info in any circumstances.
Also, I'm not 100% sure that our DMV "experts" will accept that (and yes, that's totally idiotic ).
