I watched a video a while back of how you setup and take down those "portable" lifts, it's not easy, and the parts are very heavy. If I had ne I don't think I'd go to the trouble to move the posts very often.

I was thnking that too. I was also thinking about how many stretch-and-release cycles those bolts could stand before replacement.

I use my workshop bay for more than storing the car and working on this or other cars. The MaxJax piece would let me put one column in a relatively permanent spot, and just need to move the one out from the middle of the garage when I want to do something else in there. Obviously quite a bit of latitude on positioning the columns, except that too far apart increases the overturning moment and therefore the tension on the rear bolts and anchors. The arms extend to 48" so that would be the limitation for me. I spent the afternoon scooting under and out from under the car today with it sitting on stands, chasing an erratic primary power problem. It would have been a whole lot more fun on the creeper-seat, with the car sitting up higher on the lift.

The 7,000# Worth unit has worked really well for me! Had it for maybe 5 years now and I love it.

How high is your garage ceiling over the lift? The smallest lift I see on the Worth website is 9000#, and it's 150" high overall.

Default what about single post lifts?

I am looking pretty hard at the American Custom Lifts' "Maximum 1" single post lift. The details are here: http://www.aclifts.com/parking/m1-65.asp

I'd get the smaller 4,500 lb lift, as it is available for 120V operation.

I don't know if it's ALI certified. I know other AC Lift models are. It doesn't list that on the site. Greg- what does ALI certify?

Anyway, I really like the single post - it would take up the least amount of space, not interfere with the driver door.

What I don't like is that there doesn't appear to be a "stop", so I'll need to mark it to make sure I don't lift my car through the garage ceiling!

I'm literally 1-2 months from placing an order, so let me know if anyone wants to try for a group buy.

Or, let me know if this is a particularly bad choice, or a better single post is available elsewhere.

Matt--

Hold the dimensions up against your car, and decide if the huce center tray area on this lift will give you the access you want to work on the car. I love the idea, but th every limited access undeneath menas this won't be a work lift. The website seems to focus on using it for display purposes rather thab as a work lift. too.

I agree 100%, not much you can do on that lift.
Can't even take a wheel off with out a lot of trouble.

It is not even a clear floor lift.

As you pointed out, bout the only thing that one is good for is to make it easy to get the car in the air to look at.

That seems to be the case, not much information on them on the net.

Sorry, I was not trying to be a ***, I was being for real, got a new lap top that is doing some weird Google page hijack BS, we both know what that means .

It may be that you have to go through Snap-On to get one.

I have the Pro 9d Direct lift and have no complaints. Going on 2 years and use it at least twice a week.

I think it is important, lots of lifts have failed.

I also know that folks will use a lift for more than just a little light 928.



A 8,000 pound lift with a newer diesel pick up on is a scary thing to be pulling hard on a bolt underneath.

To much at stake to not have a design that has not been tested to hold at least what it is rated for.

edit: as far as a stop, that is a easy thing to hook up, cheap photo cell, switch and a relay.

You could have your slab X-rayed and have the tendons marked on the slab. Then you could drill your anchors without the fear of breaking a tendon.
