To assist us to help you, what year model and type, S4 GT or GTS car do you have and what type auto or manual.

In addition in the electrical drawing for the 928, there is a plug/connector chart and and schematic of the car with the location of the plug/connector.

I you are going to DIY on the car would highly recommend that you get Jim Moorehouse's Technical CDs as they include all the information you will need and more. You can buy them direct from Jim Moorehouse or from Roger at 928Rus.

It is for the factory alarm.

Disconnected, no alarm activation or deactivation from that side of the car.

You will have one just like it on the drivers side by the 18 pin connector too.

My car is a 1988 S4 automatic. I don't plan to DIY much since I know absolutely nothing about mechanics or electrical. And yes-I know that spells financial suicide for a 928 owner but unfortunately us girls don't get to learn much of that stuff growing up (which is not good practice since we should all strive to know a little of everything to be well-rounded). That said, I'll probably get the reference materials you mention so I can try to gain at least a basic understanding-thanks for the recommendations.

Great - thanks for the info guys. I was worried it had come loose when I recently had my door seals replaced since the passenger side speaker also mysteriously ceased working after that. I don't think my car has factory alarm (or if it did it was later replaced by a Cobra which has since also been disconnected) so it's probably supposed to be disconnected-that's a relief. Thanks again

From that picture I can tellyou for certain that your car did come with a factory alarm, and that the portion of your key which goes into the lock will be roughly 1.5" long. This idicates a factory alarm.

The cars without a factory alarm had none of the wiring in the car as it was a completely seperate harness.

Colin, gotta disagree, both '88's here have the wiring, but they are not alarm cars.

I have checked the electrical drawings for the 88S4 and it appears to be Terminal 40 located at 7cl on the 928 location sketch.

If this is correct it is for the Alarm system/door lock and the receptical for terminal T40 is located above the EZK/LH Contorl units.

Check the color of the wires going to the pins of the plug in your photograph to confirm that this is in fact the correct terminal T40.

If it is T40 the wires should be as follows:
Pin 1 BR/RD - Brown wire with a red stripe
Pin 2 BR - Brown
Pin 3 BR/GR - Brown with green stripe

If they are not these colors then please advise the colors and I will try and locate the terminal via the colors.

Bingo-that's it exactly. So I guess my car had a factory alarm-that's surprising because I didn't see it listed on the option code sticker...hmm.

Thanks for your help, Tails - and everyone else who chimed in...mystery solved
