Default Fuel economy of the 928?

I am looking at buying a Porsche as a daily driver, so my 08 Corvette can be the garage queen/drag racing car (heaviliy modified..runs 10.9 in quartermile). I am thinking about a 944, but have always loved the lines of the 928. But, my drive to/from work is 35 miles each way, so I want to get something that gets decent mileage. My 08 Corvette gets 18mpg average. For an early 928 (83-88 models), what type of gas mileage would I be looking at with a five speed.

About the same as the Vette. As a DD I woudl got with a Boxter S. Much newer and more realible than an old 928.

Guy at my office drives that far. He got a Prius because the monthly savings in gas between the Prius and his Jeep Grand Cherokee (v8--18mpg) makes the car payment on the Prius. If I was commuting like that I would look for a TDI VW.

Little less than that but only off by 2 for an '81 w/ S4 running gear (less motor).

I was getting 17 cty - 22 Hwy on the S4 and I get 16 cty - 20 hwy on the GT.

A V8 isn't a good choice if you're looking for fuel economy. It 928 would definitely make that drive a breeze, very comfortable and fast.

My DD is a TDI, and the fuel mileage is amazing. On highway commutes a diesel is a much better option than a hybrid. Hydrids shine in a stop and go traffic (city). Once they are on the highway, for an extended periof of time, they loose their excellent fuel mileage because the gasoline engine has to run almost all the time and the betteries don't get a chace to fully charged.

i agree with Imre. I sold my 2009 Jetta Tdi to buy the 928. As far as mileage and driveability, a Jetta Tdi or similar cannot be beat. You get gobs and gobs of torque and incredible mileage.
I really do miss the Jetta, but not as much as I love my 928

I averaged 25mpg driving from Maryland to California. My best mileage was something around 34 mpg, but I was drafting a truck. Average speed was probably 80 mph, no lie. I think it's mostly in how willing you are to draft, I had another car that I was caravaning with, so drafting was okay on the long empty stretches where there was no civilization.

I wouldn't buy a 928, if I was concerned about fuel economy/decent mileage per gallon. A used one may cost you alot, if it has not been maintained properly!!! I get the same mpg numbers as those already listed.

1982 We get 18-19 and 23-24 Highway
1984 With BAD injection we get 15-16 and 19-20 on the Highway
My OLD 944 turbo got almost 30 on the highway.
