Just got back from the Texas mile with Roger. Met up with Paul and Linda Champagne and Randy and Cheryl Carter, plus Ed MD. WOW, very impressive! Ed MD was able to do 150MPH in his supercharged 85 5-spd. There was also a Toyota Supra that did 247MPH, a half dozen or more Ford GT's (GT-40 replica), one did 220. Dozens of Corvetts, motorcycles (those suckers are fast), 911's, tuner Honda's, VW's, Audi's, Vipers, Lamborgini's etc. About 100X better than I expected. Alot of the women weren't bad either. The next one or next year would make a great outting for the DFW 928 group!

Sounds like a great time Jim. I really wanted to go, and have wanted to go for a few years, but the weekend was just too busy. I did watch a ton of YouTube Texas Mile videos from past events, and it looks like a fun time. One guy lost control of his bike at 200 mph as he slammed on the brakes, but he wasn't seriously hurt. There was also a 1500 HP twin turbo Lambo that was just amazing.

He's a real cool guy known as "S.W." and has the boost logic built Supra. It's around 1200hp to the rear tires if I remember correctly. Last year he made a run, set a record, then on the next pass bumped up the boost and tossed a rod. The twin turbo lambos are built by underground racing and Heffner Performance BTW. Their are some sick videos from underground on youtube.

Here's a couple pictures of Ed's car. The picture of his car on the start-line was his 150 mph run (yesterday).
There was a Panamera turbo there too. I think he rolled a 166(?)

Awsome. 150s not bad for the old 928, great job.
Some the current tuned machinery out there now is just mind boggeling. The Underground racing Lambo with 1,500HP is just insane. With 4 wheel drive, it was putting out numbers like a 0-60 in two and a half seconds with the 60-130mph only taking another 3.5 seconds. That is 0-130 mph in 6 seconds. The 1/4 mile was recorded at 9.1 seconds at 169mph and the standing mile was 241.68mph.
I can not imagine this kind of acceleration in anything short of a dedicated drag racer.
While I love the 928 and the performance a supercharged version is more than I will ever be able to handle, it just shows what modern supercars are capable of when tuned to the extreme. But, first you have to be able to buy a Lamborghini, then spend another $109,000 to have the works done to it to make the 1,500HP monster.
I don't know, if I had money to burn.....................

Yea, SW is a really nice guy and owns some AMAZING cars! He has a UR Lambo too...not sure if he had it at the TX mile this year...he had talked about running it but I was not there. He ran his Supra this year...closer to 1500HP at the wheels I think for this year. Didn't I read he set the new record this year at 247 or something like that?! AMAZING!

The 928 would make a great platform for standing mile runs......mostly due to its ability to reach 400+ci with 4V heads and take boost..... However its an EXTREMELY expensive game to play.....were talking cubic $$$ over say ORR or track driving...mostly due to the extremely short life of the high strung-high boost engines...& related stress of driveline components
Making BIG power is a simple formula.....and starting with a big engine makes it much easier than say a 2.0L.... If Mike Simard built a boosted 7L.....at a leisurely 150hp per liter it would be 1050hp and not really trying that hard..... 200+hp/L is very easy under boost.... the bummer is 1000hp won't get you very far in standing mile racing.....if you don't have 1500+hp...forget it....

To me, a lot of the cars seemed like they were about through at the finish line--there just wasn't much left. The only exception was the GT40s and the lambos. They seemed like they were still pulling even at 210-220 range.
Would be great to get a bunch of us together there this fall!
