This is an interesting thread for me - I have a late 88 5 speed and was surprised that a similar car with less miles was asking 24k. I am realistic of course, but if I didn't repaint for example, is it worth more? Under 50k miles?

IMHO asking price should take into consideration the cosmetic condition, mechanical condition and maintenance history. An original car in excellent condition says that the car was babied and cared for all of its life. Lower mileage cars obviously have less wear/tear on them but its not always the case. Mileage history should also be available when asking a premium.

GT money. I would take one look at the rear engine bay fuel lines and say; "pass".

Doc, tell me what you see in engine pics of rear fuel lines? Not sure what to look at in the pics.

As to repaint issue, is the pic of the the rocker area with car on lift the telltale pic? The red showing on the underside being overspray? What color should it be?

I didn't look at the pics, but I doubt they show the flexible fuel lines in the rear. The point is, that for this kind of money, those fuel lines should be new/replaced, and they won't be.

I'm not seeing the very obvious evidence of overspray. Afshin, want to point it out? All I see is a "redder" line that might be a camera artifact or just a cleaner section.

I do see evidence of a leaking oil pan: look in the NACA ducts to the MMs.

And, as far as I'm concerned any car with plastic gears in the VDO odometer is total mileage unknown.

The close up shot of the rocker panel shows the red overspray which doesn't look like anything I've seen on other 928's I've looked at. The included rub strips which I "assumed" were removed from the car sealed the deal for me.

Like I said, its minor if the PO did it to get rid of the rub strips.

The seller is a flipper. The car has recent paint work as evidenced by the overspray under the rocker panels (and picture showing the uninstalled side moldings).

He probably paid $15k for the car and is jacking up the price to make a quick score.

IIRC this car was on eBay a while back for around $18-20k, and was relisted so many times I lost count.

I like how he drove the car to a nice neighborhood and took some pictures in the culdesac.

I agree with Rob, outstanding example of a S-4 5speed. Much nicer then some of the GTSs that I've seen priced much higher If this car is as it appears, I would pick it over some of the GTSs that I seen lately. The GTS is the most modern 928, but I'm not convinced it is the best. Good luck on your search

I was being semi-facetious, I have no idea whether this is in fact a nice car. I will never again buy a used car without personally laying eyes on it and getting a thorough and competent PPI. The best digital picture in the world is no substitute for laying your own eyes on a car. I just meant that if it is a nice car, it should go for top dollar and we shouldn't spend lots of time and effort tearing it to shreds based on some limited quality and resolution Ebay images. Y'know, like stop eating our own young!
