i went to see the car and it is in excellent shape, even the tool kit is all there. Engine bay is clean, no leaks that I could see, motor mounts done, no curb rash on the wheels, brand new tires, ac blows ice cold, interior is fantastic. Unfortunately we couldn't agree on a price because there is no record of the timing belt being done. we all know that if it hasnt been done, it will HAVE TO BE DONE immediately. I asked them so split that cost with me. They wanted $15400 I offered $14500. They may get back to me about it but something tells me the car will be gone really soon.....
i hope i dont regret leaving that dealership without that car

In the big scheme of things - what are $900, if you really love the car and it is cosmetically perfect? Sure, there might be another that's mechanically perfect, but if you have to do any paint or interior work, you are quickly spending 4-digit numbers.
If it is as nice as it seems, this dealer is clever to not just give it away. And he will potentially help us all by keeping the values of our cars up.

Yes some cars are worth less for any number of reasons--but a well sorted out car is worth more.

Well, that makes pretty good sense.
This one is almost sorted out but some flags are still flying for us to agree heartily on its value.
The California car was going to require a tremendous amount of money and work.
I know, I've spent every spare moment for the last 27 months laying underneath them and researching here.
No flaming. Its just so costly to bring them back to upper echelon or even mid-echelon condition when they begin to slide.

Good 928's are becoming more and more rare! REALLY good ones are hard to find (outside of those owned by many of the members here who are not interested in selling) and I think in the long run even my old '81 will probably come back to a point where I can get out of it what I have in it... Not sure that will be the case for my '94 GTS...at least not any time soon.

But-if the frame is damaged and the hatch can't be aligned--Game OVer.

Interesting that you do not mention the mileage or any explantation for the different stories they were laying out.
If I were paying top $ for the car I would be asking that question because one day when you want to sell it the value will reduce dramatically.
Nice car with no history and a big ?? over its true mileage especially on a digital dash car leaves some big questions.
Might be 30k, might be 40k could be 100k. I have seen plenty of nice looking cars with 100k on the clock as good looking as this one.
You were wise to walk away.
If this was a well sorted car the TB would have been changed.
Not flaming just giving you a reality check.
We have a local 89 for sale with 154k on the clock that looks just like this one. Difference is $6k on the price and the mileage is fully documented.

Well, it seemed to be a VERY NICE car... I don't think $16k for a gorgeous low mile S4 was out of the range of reality frankly...clearly I was correct. Now long term how the car will be is anyone's guess but now it is in the hands of the new owner to enjoy and keep it nice.

Well, maybe.
Mileage was an issue with replaced odometer.
Florida exception title confused me. Their laws are extremely strong regarding mileage rollback, BTW.
Car was a lot of places. History was weak.
Price was premium.
They are exceptional cars, though.

I don't think the person who bought it found the odometer issue suspect. He works for a big federal agency who prosecute such matters.
