Late Nubie Intro (+Pics)
Hello all,
I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone on Rennlist that has helped to get me up to speed on the 928, and share a few pictures of my recent purchase.
I bought it in Florida just after the new year. It has 69K miles on it put on by two previous owners that seem to have taken pretty good care of it. Cosmetically it looks nearly new, and mechanically it drives quite well. I still plan on doing some fairly major work to it come the fall to swap out / rebuild the parts that can either ware down or age poorly over time.
Roger has been taking good care of me, and I will be swapping out the fuel lines (with his kit), and coolant - shortly. I will also be checking the TB tension as the light comes on under anything less than conservative driving. Aside from that, I am hoping that everything else can wait until after the summer.
Originally the car lived in the Wisconsin / Florida areas, but now will reside in the New York & New Jersey area. I am not planning on any major changes to the car as I want to keep is as stock as possible, but I was thinking about a set of Cup style wheels...that's probably for the future though as the PO just put a new set of tires on.
Thanks again, and I look forward to meeting you all at the various events and gatherings.
Cheers,
Dave

Option codes were listed on a sticker on top of the gas tank area in the rear. Lift the carpet and padding on the rigt side of the luggage area and you should be able to find it.

Dave-
Pull the rear console carpeting, should be a 3-4" square white sticker on the right side, above where the fuel tank is. It has the engine, tranny, and option codes on it.
There may (should?) also be a copy of the sticker in the warranty pamphlet in the owner's paperwork in the glovebox. The sticker in my GTS was ruined by a stereo install but there's a nice one in the pamphlet.

It doesn't seem to be uniformly accurate, but if you lift up the carpet in the hatch area there should be a sticker that might list options.
If you look under the transmission, there will be a stamp that would indicate original presence of limited slip. It would also likely be on the option sticker.
The convention seems inaccurate, though, regarding the sticker. Also, people can change stuff with time. Porsche can send you a build sheet apparently.
Here's a sticker from an 85. Car is spoiler delete with LSD but neither show on this sticker. When Stan Shaw quizzed the original owner of the car the guy said it was how he bought it new, no spoilers, for instance.

just turn the timing belt tensioner bolt 1/2 turn. if you are boarder line on tension, it will fix that problem and not overtighten. that will keep your sanity for a few months until you get it all checked out .

Nice car i hope you enjoy it.
Since there is still snow on the ground now would be a good time for some PM service, With the low miles the fuel lines may be OK to go but should be inspected and if any doubt should be replaced.
Also replace the heater control valve and the short hose, this is the weak link in the system and gives you a chance to inspect the intake/ fuel lines for any other issues.
Dont run the car till the belt tension has been checked and if its older than 5 years consider doing a fresh belt install, waiting for service on the belt is not the smartest thing you can do.
Refill the tensioner with STP and you should be good to go
