im still using the same 25 year old radiator, with no issues and most of my races are fairly hot days, some in the 100 degree temps. 7 years later, with more consecutive races than most any other 928, and no issues with cooling.

you are talking about another make of car, and thats apples and moon rocks.

these 928s are amazing machines, BUT, you to have to make sure yours is in top shape before racing, or get some laps under your belt. if things stablize, run cool, mixtures are good and electrical is sound, there should be no problem putting many hours consecutively, on a 928. (timing belt and oil changes would be my only concerns). on of the main issues with a 928 cooling system is bleading it well. most folks dont know how to do it.

And I'll bet a tired 928 will run hot if you're not careful.

Remember you're talking about a LeMons car here, not something new that has been carefully maintained. Old timing belts, dry-rotted hoses, clogged radiators with bent vanes, possible junk in the cooling passages, old head bolts that have long since given up their "stretch" and innumerable other things. Making that crapheap last is part of the fun!

turtles didnt win our last T-hill race. you needed to have a car as fast as ours, but needed to stay OUT of trouble. he who runs fast, but also stays out of trouble will be in the top 3. I could care less about the top 10, other than being out there. probably 50/50. Have fun, and have some great racing, but we also want to win.

Yes, im fully aware of taking anything that can run for 16 hours straight and end up in the top 10. smart driving and no penalties will get you that, but that aint racing in my opinion.

We just finished LeMons South and ran flawlessly for the entire race, nothing but gas and driver changes. It was a fantastic weekend! Our strategy was 5500rpm, no powershifting, and hammer the brakes (we could easily outbrake almost everyone). With a 95hp CRX running absolutely non-stop, zero trips to the paddock and only 2 black flags, we finished 6th overall. We had the slowest "fastest lap" of any of the top 10 cars, and very nearly the most total on-track time of anyone. To say we maxxed the car is an understatement and I'm still on a high that our strategy worked so well.

Long way of saying that running at 8/10ths and preserving the car counts a LOT more than absolute lap time. In the end you will gain laps because you keep running, because running at 10/10ths will end up costing you more in off-track time. Your car has enough power that you can baby it all the way to the end and contend for victory. Also spend money on good brake pads. We run Hawk blues and had very little pad wear and no changes necessary. The guys next to us went through 3 sets of cheap pads, costing them a lot of time in the paddock.

What I'm talking about is a LeMons car, beat to hell and back, that can and will have problems. Heat is one of those and will affect any car out there, whether it's made of apples or moon rocks. And a 928's rocks are no bigger or more special than the other guys' rocks. We all want to win of course but to finish first, first you must finish. Can't wait to see how the 928 runs this time out, and I hope you do win it! Hell if a Saab can win our race, a 928 sure as hell ought to win yours!
