Does anyone know this 1986.5 928S

No, you are just succumbing to the disease. Fever pitch.
I thought early 86 also has ABS standard, but can't find the verification. My 86 has it, but its buried under a foot of heavy snow so I can't look at the option sticker.
ahh, maybe here:

I also think the price of these are increasing--in spite of the stock market this past week.
The reality is there are less and less drivable/restorable 928s out there.

How can you make it subject to a PPI on eBay ?
There is no VPP if you don't pre inspect and over 10 years old it covers almost nothing even if you do.

I'd be a lot less skeptical about that 928 if the dip**** who posted it knew it was an 8 cylinder engine and not a 4...
They've even got a shot of the engine bay that clearly reads "32V" I didn't know the 944 came with 8 valves per cylinder....

The buyer is the one that needs to be the smart one.

Ah, so you are going to trust a guy when he says "engine and transmission 100% perfect" AND says he has all the manuals and service history when in reality he has no clue what the hell he has on his hands? That has got to be the biggest GD 4 cylinder I've ever seen. And the car has 8 spark plug wires! Frankly, anyone who can make such claims and then post picture evidence to the contrary has no right to claim they know anything about the condition of the car. I wonder if it is even a one-owner car...

What I am saying is that the buyer needs to be the smart one. As you point out falling for the hype will be fatal. It also has some potential to bargain with like "How can that be 100% perfect ?"
I don't deny it could mean that is time to run away as fast as possible if the bull continues.
That will determine who is smarter in the long run.

Ahh okay. I see what you are getting at now. Yeah, buyer definitely had better be smarter than that guy, or he's gonna get screwed.
What do you mean by a workaround so it doesn't get pulled by eBay?

If the ad stated "like new" instead of "100%" the eBay bot would have been triggered to remove it.

I get the feeling you have ants in your pants to buy a 928 *now* and are rationalizing buying one of the first cars you've come across that isn't obviously terrible and that's in your price range. Hopefully this isn't the case and you're confident this is the right car, color, interior, gearbox, options etc. for you to be happy that you've met your desires after you get the car home.
All 928's are "restorable" - its just a matter of how much you have to pour into them to do so.
Mechanical work is a lot cheaper than interior/exterior work on a 928 (check out the cost of even just the door seals, let alone all the other trim and seals required for a decent re-paint).
Sure a PPI may tell you that the car is in great mechanical shape with no issues, but if the paint and interior aren't up to your expectation, that car is still way more than $10k from being the car you want.
The one-owner nature of this car is irrelevant - its done 135k miles and the interior is in very average condition (i.e. shows those miles - look at the driver's seat bolster, plus the drivers door card has what looks suspiciously like a cigarette burn in the fabric, carpets are pretty dire, and more). It means that in my opinion, this car will not be a concours winner, ever, as "restoration" would entail re-covering the seats/door cards and more, losing originality points.
Given that, why not look for a car that is in better interior/exterior shape? A PPI shouldn't be used as a basis for buying a car - it should be used as a confirmation that the decision you have made is the right one before you hand over your money.
Lastly, I realise this may have pissed you off, that wasn't my intention, we on this forum just see a fair few people appear, buy on impulse, have a few threads about issues that remain unsolved, and then disappear, followed by someone re-spotting the car on craiglist or fleabay. Its a sucky ride for those who buy the car expecting to realise a dream, and I'd prefer people got it right the first time and enjoy the dream (some get it wrong more than once, and buy rashly repeatedly).
edit:
The BIN is $10.5k - at that price, you could find a much better condition 5-speed for the money. No way a 135k mile 86.5 auto is worth that much.
