Default porsche cd-2 radio

I picked up a porsche cd-2 radio/cd player in a box of porsche things at an estate sale. I don't know much about these units, it appears to be pre-amp only with what looks like a blau 8 pin DIN pre-out and simple pwr/grd/remote wiring posts. I powered it up and all that happens is the anti-theft starts blinking. Can anyone tell me who actually sourced these units? Do they need a code to operate once disconnected from power? If so, how would I aquire the code? Most importantly...is it even worth screwing with? THX in advance

They're Alpine units, and reasonably desireable if A) they work, and B) you have the code. Without the code you're hosed, tho. There are lots of threads discussing ways to get a code but to my knowledge there is no reliable source.

No code, don't bother. I have been there over the last three months. Dealer can't help, even with serial number and car VIN. Stephan at SW Stereo says nothing can be done. Code is 5 digits with no number higher than 6. Look carefully at the case for a scribed or written number. I'm told sometimes you can get lucky.

Also they seem to be getting to the age where they are breaking... I wonder, if that one is actually a GOOD UNIT if some of its CD player parts (as that seems to be where the failings occur) would be useful to someone w/ a broken unit... might be cost prohibitive to change stuff out, but we do have a lot of guys here w/ great EE ability and knowledge...
