I've not changed the O2 sensor. I just looked through all the service records for the car and cannot see where it was ever replaced. The car has a set of records back to birth... There's been a LOT of money spent on this car.

Daniel disconnect your battery and unplug your O2 sensor. Reconnect your battery and go for a drive. If it runs better than you have the same problem I do.... The oxygen sensor.

If you solve yours and my crimping doesn't solve mine, I'm tossing the O2 and going ROW non-cat. I'll take my chances buying cats every 2 years.

Matt and Andy, the O2 disconnect and battery reset seems to have corrected the problem. Yes, it idles fine now with no surging whatsoever. Feels wierd, I kinda got used to it!
Does this PROVE the O2 sensor is bad? Can I just leave it disconnected and cheap out??? LOL

Could be O2 sensor or LH ECU problem. Loss of O2 loop function is often an early sign of LH death. With luck your issue will be O2 sensor..... disconnecting the O2 sensor makes the LH default to the mid point of the O2 loop range. The car does not go "open loop", rather "fixed closed loop".

I hate that damn oxygen sensor; like I was telling you John, I'm gonna go ROW crazy on my LH if I can't get this fixed.
Sure hope your car is easier than mine and that it really is the O2 sensor.

The car was at operating temp, about 170 on the guage. Before, when it was at that temp, it surged like nobody's business.
With the O2 unplugged she was smooth.
As an O2 is much cheaper than an LH, I think I'll swap the O2 out first.
If the LH is bad will the same symptom return soon after the replacement?
