'83S US Fuse & Relay ?
Hello All!,
First post on Rennlist so please have patience with me. A little background first.
I always been a fan of the 928 so I purchased one (1983S US) in less than desirable shape in hopes of bringing it back to life. The interior (full leather; no vinyl) was sun-damaged; a Florida car. I am in the process of refurbing this in my basement much to my wife's dismay. The engine is solid; no leaks; oil or vac. The PO was selling due to inexperience with electrical issues. Headlights, interior lights, HVAC, etc. etc. With a background in mechanical engineering I figured no problem and plunged.
Now to my question: I have totally dismantled the car and have done all of the electrical PM checks posted by Wally, i.e all grounds were checked and cleaned, bad connections were repaired, everything labeled for ease of use next time, etc. The Porsche shop manuals Vol. 5 Body & Electrics have two relay and fuse charts in them. One is labeled in the foot note of the page "1980 Model". The prior chart in the manual is not labeled with a foot note. the 83-84 relay chart on the 928 Specialist website is exactly the same as the chart called out in the manual for the 1980 model.
The other issues are with fuse #S-10 and #S-7; the website lists S-10 as "not used", while the manual (for both charts) lists stop lights, cruise control, and bulb control unit. Fuse S-7 on the website is listed as the fuse for the stop light, cruise control and bulb test. The manuals list this fuse as the fuse for the rear window wiper and in the 1980 chart as "not used".
I would like to go ahead and completely clean all of the relay contacts but would like some clarification on this dilemma. I am making an album of the restore so plenty of pics coming. Thanks for the help!

Not 100% certain, but here is a another data point for you to use as comparison, from 928 Electrical training document, but be careful with this because its an attempt to show ROW and USA 83 on same page:

And, similarities / differences. If you don't have it, get the CD from Rog100 that has the manuals and wiring diags AND all these cool extra documents.

You might find this CE panel refurb writeup helpful.
You really need to look at the wiring diagrams to sort out the fuse issue. I believe that there was a difference in this area for US/Euro differences -- I can look into it later today or tonight.

The 83 wiring diagrams don't seem to have a CE panel view or relay/fuse chart. Has to be extracted page by page, so just confirm the above layout using the diagrams. Above is from the electrical training manuals that happen contrast year by year changes through 85.
The USA PET givers the relay layout, but you have to dig through the PET parts list on multiple pages to assemble the right view.
The 83 Owners Manual is extensive, though, and it shows relays and fuses and respective function. I have one, but its Euro/German and not what he needs.
Maybe somebody else here has a USA 83 Owner's manual with the summary chart that they can take a digital picture of and post.

I would put a fuse in #7 and see if the stoplights work, then switch the fuse to #10 and see if the stoplights work. You would then KNOW for sure which fuse is which on your car.

dont put fuses into the slots that are indicated to be not used as you may cross power another circuit.
I would follow Wallys suggestion though so you can determine what CE panel you have, then fuse it accordingly
