Porsche 928 vs. 3 Super Performers
Last night on the way back from Las Vegas, I got into a convoy with a new Dodge Challenger SRT8, Mustang GT500 Shelby, and a New Mercedes c6.3 AMG.
We all played around racing the for over 100 miles. I was shocked how well my 20 year old 928s4 stacked up against them..especially looking on the computer today that all have over 400 hp with the mustang @ 500 hp.
Wall took turned racing each other.....
From about 75-80 the Challenger side by side with me could not leave me up to 120 then I slowed down.
The same situation with the Shelby left different results. The Mustang left me but not as quickly as I thought!
The AMG Mercedes beat all of us when each person took a crack at him, even thought the computer says the Mercedes has the lease HP of them all except me.
All in all it was alot of fun all of us averaging about 85 mph all in a line. Before we broke off they all gave me a thumbs up, I think they were all freinds and we all had our wifes/girlfreinds in the our cars.
Again not too too bad for a 20 year old car with 130k miles!!

Boils down to weight and aerodynamics.
People thought the 928 was heavy back in 1978, the Shelby weighs almost 4,000lbs and is a brick pushing through the air, the Challenger is even worse, over 4,000lbs!!!
The Mercedes is a tad bit heavier than an S4 with better aero.

... and we're talking about open road racing here, not the quarter mile. The 928 is geared for this, the Challenger and Shelby not. Despite the hp, I'm surprised you didn't toast the Shelby in this environment. The Benz is more of an autobahn car and there's no shame in losing to a newer car of the same type.
