With all the discussion, tedious explanations of how it works, the reasoning, and then the failures and the alarm messages to the dash that others and you have reported, why would you ever decide to pull the sensor switch lead and not to put oil in the tensioner?? Then brag about it like some maroon, trying to justify it as if it's some kind of victory that should be celebrated??

With some luck, God willl save you.
Dr Bob, I dont believe in the tooth fairy either. 3 oz of oil is not going to save a timing belt "event" from happening. I dont believe in luck. scot's, mine, and over 200 race days have proven to me, that the oil in the tensioner is not a big deal. Until you bring some super slow mo photography of the tensioner wavy washers moving under vibration, I will believe that their main purpose is a very stiff compliance and the oil is mainly there for lubrication of the components, and heat transfer speed. Now, I did make an effort to put oil in my tensioners. because of their leaks, and a general understanding of how they work, I didnt get **** and fix the leak, as some oil still remained, and was enough to do the task I felt it needed to do.

Thats it Bob, im just lucky your right. oh yeah, thats why I got taken out by a silly honda going for a sunday drive during one of my races.

Pleazzzzz! Im trying to think out loud on what the oil could do in the system. Sure, i do like the one way valve in the piston, and certainly think that could act similar to the lifters. I see the stiffness of the washers, understand the viscosity of the oil and can imagine the vibration that that system is put through from the belt at speed. I would say that the oil, damping and heat transfer, just puts a little less wear on the system, and applies the right tension in all operational temp ranges. Because I baby the engine during start up and warm up, maybe that is the reason Ive been so..... "lucky".

On a re-read, out of this whole thread, the only comment that bothers me the one I made. I stated it definitively, not based on clear knowledge of the system, not opinion-based on empirical experience racing like the rest of you did. Sorry guys, I've overstepped my knowledge base again and need to watch that.

Thanks for explanations and descriptions and spirited conversation.

MK every time you post , I put this thought into my mind,
That your standing on top of the mountain with your gladiator outfit on and the huge sword in your hand ready to take on any contestants.
This makes it easier for me to see where your coming from.
Thanks for sharing your experience and i wish you continued success with your car.
BTW try some STP in the tensioner it wont leak out as fast if at all as the 90wt does. Best, Stan
