My last two experiences (within the last 6 months) with USPS have not been good:
  • Pair of rims shipped to me from Germany via DHL over there, transferred to USPS upon arrival stateside. DHL tracking showed the rims arrived simultaneously in the New York international processing center four days after shipping from Germany. ONE of the rims arrivee in Tulsa about a week later, the other rim was AWOL. After filing a lost item report, it finally showed up weeks later. Total time for the one rim - 71 DAYS.
  • I shipped a pair of rims USPS Parcel Post to a fellow Rennlister in Maryland. Paid extra for delivery confirmation and insurance, and was told 2-9 days. One rim arrived 11 days later, the other 13 days. Had both of us nervous for several days.
Thus, they're two for two with me recently. They won't be getting another chance. To that end, I had already quoted USPS to another buyer on some rims w/tires, I ended up sending FedEx Ground and paying the extra out of my own pocket. It arrived on time as promised.

I've had good experience with both UPS and FedEx. Heck, even GREYHOUND got a pair of seats to me in the time frame they told the seller and me and both arrived at the same time. I've had it with the USPS!

I just left the Post office, It's one of those Annex types that you can only pick up mail. I get there, I'm the only customer. Ring bell...stand around for 3 minutes...rang it again...stand around some more...read the FBI wanted posters...glance at watch.....admire my 928 from the window...rang for the 3rd time...Finally a guy flings door open And demands I stop ringing the bell!!

I tried Fedex once, shipping stuff to Oz from the US.

They have a nasty habit of self-assessing the import charges, and adding them to the freight bill.

Since the consignor has typically paid the freight on dispatch, they charge the consignee and refuse to deliver the parcel, instead forcing you to collect it and pay the "outstanding amount".

The "self-assessed import fees" are applied EVEN WHEN NO FEES ARE CHARGED BY AUSTRALIAN CUSTOMS (which is typical if the value of the consignment is less than AUD$1000), and in my case were charged at TWICE the standard rate (21%). Adding 42% to the total price meant I could have bought the parts at the only stealership for only a few dollars more.

With USPS on the other hand, I have NEVER had to pay customs fees, and delivery has always been sooner than expected.

The BEST way to get parts from the US though is to fly to 928OCIC, and get Roger and Laura to pack everything into your luggage - it worked for me, even though TSA had to open my suitcase.

I guess because on the X-ray they couldn't tell the difference between four Boge shocks and a really big pipe bomb.

My Post Office is a hoot, they striked recently for increased pay, and less hours. The post office employees(not carriers) now get salaried $43k a year and work from 9am-3:30pm M-F. Nice hours I think. It's a tiny post office only serving 3000, with 3 employees. They are pretty good though, I rarely wait. Just hard to get there sometimes due to the hours of operation.

So, you got the terrorist treatment also... I got the pad-down, interrogation, and complete search of my backpack, including the vacuum thingie that searches for explosives. At least I was not in a hurry...

I bet my products were considered pretty harmless, compared to those shocks. But didn't those make your suitcase go over the 50 pound limit?

I got NONE of the treatment. The flight out of DFW I was supposed to be on was cancelled - broken icing sensor - and AA wanted to put me on a flight that arrived in LA 4 hours after my connecting flight left. I bullied my way onto an earlier flight, finished up running through the terminal at LA to catch the shuttle to the other terminal (Tom Bradley?) and never even went through immigration. When I got to Sydney, I was informed that my luggage was missing, which was a GOOD thing, as even without waiting to collect it I still only made my connection by two minutes.

I only discovered that my bag had been opened when it was delivered to my home three days after I arrived, and I saw the nice note from TSA in the top of it.

The huge box with the other stuff I bought was delivered two days after that - unopened.

QANTAS has apparently negotiated a better deal for passengers on AA code shares - the weight limit for me was 75 pounds. I was over by three pounds, and that cost me USD$25.

Is this thread about shipping cars or parts?

For parts, USPS has been good on the small stuff for me. Especially to and from Hawaii. Bigger things, FedEx Ground has been the most consistent with lesser damage than I have experienced with UPS.

For Cars, all are similar, except Intercity in the U.S. has the best equipment and moves a lot of high end cars so they are careful. More expensive than most.

Most of my customers know that I ship about 95% of our parts using USPS. We ship 5 to 25 packages every day and over the last 3 years we have had very few problems.
I hate UPS and Fedex as they screw you every which way. They do deliver OK but what we see on the invoice later is what pisses me off. Iv'e had deliveries go missing but they always tun up.
They charge extra if you sneeze.

USPS 100% for over seas shipping as the others are WAY expensive.
