928 for a 16 year old

Well I would give him a 1953 Packard like my dad started me in. But I guess there is nothing wrong with a 16 year old in a high powered car, Joey Lagano was in a late model at that age.
Give him the same DE I got, ON A RACE TRACK from age 17 and that got the spped bug under very good control. You can get an entry level 4 cylinder dirt car and he can learn CAR CONTROL then he will survive in the real world.

Sure I would of loved to have a better car, but it seems this thread has shown that many of us loved our first cars no matter what we had.

Taught my 15 yr old daughter to drive in the shark, and the next daughter had her first drivers lesson in it also, but the wife won't let her drive it on her own, too many Thumbs ups from the Boys, and wanna race propositions when she was shotgun w/the daughter on a drive, or when wife is out on her own.

New cars on the road are heavier and bigger, if you look at every model of Truck or SUV, they have gotten bigger and heavier with every new model, an old car from the 70s or 80s is no match for them, it is best to buy something newer with air bags.

Well OF COURSE I still do crazy ****. The difference this time is that I am wise enough to do it as safely as possible. No Fast and Furious driving for me, thanks.
Here, here to our young posters! Most appreciated. As a teen when I paid CASH for my own car and did ALL the upkeep on it, it REALLY made me appreciate that car!
As for the, "I did crazy **** whatever car I was driving when I was 16, but by 18..." Ummmm, I am 45 and STILL do CRAZY $HIT in my 928's EVERYDAY! Some people NEVER, EVER grow up, but damnit I do keep getting older! Just no fair! I only hit 100 once today and only drifted the car slightly twice today, so it was an off day for me! LOL!

The first car I was allowed to drive was my parent's AMC Pacer. I totalled it a week after I got my license. It wasn't my fault. No really, it wasn't. One of the funniest things I think I've ever seen was my dad driving the Pacer into a huge tree repeatedly in the back yard just to make sure it was totalled. I remember yelling, "Hit it again, Dad."
I'm going to let my daughter drive the Murano S4. She just turned 20 and seems responsible enough most of the time. If she was a 16 year old boy, no way no how.

Teenagers believe they are invincible
Not no, but @$##@%^ no.. Do you think a teenager will push the car to the limits, just to show-off to friends, or a girl? Remember when you were a teenager, and felt invincible, nothing will happen to you? Thank God I never got this car at a young age. Please save a Trooper a long night by having to work a fatality scene which is over a quarter mile stretch when traveling at 140 mph. Remember there are no 'fender benders' at 100 mph. I let my boys drive mine, while I am in the passenger seat. #1 Supervision, # 2 Lessons, # 3 Appreciation for the car, and what you can attain with good work/school ethics win-win! Get him a Saturn. Safe, reliable car.

ok here is the deal ! im 19 now, my first car was an 82 auto-mato at 16, after begging my parents for years. I consiered my self a very mature 16/17 year old looking back. private pilot volunteer FD bla bla bla. but aneyway the car caused more issues than it was worth.
1. kids in mustang/honda whatever will be jelous vandelize it (mine was)
2. he will speed and get a ticket/tickets
3. cops will get to know the car and he will be assioated with it. ( pulled over. o and when you park outside a party he will be the last one leaving when they bust it up)
4. he will try to see how fast it goes to make a video and show all of his friends on facebook
5 everybody will try to race him.
i can go on and on but i think its a bad idea and i should never have purchased one at 16 because it caused problems that i listed. aney porsche( 944/924 whatever) would basically have produced the same results.
looking back id go wth an a4 or 325i

I think that at 16 years of age, you still need something to aspire to. You also don't need the responsibility of an expensive-to-fix car. The money is better spend on education and travel - cars and other doo-dads can always follow later.
