Default PS hoses

Changing the hoses on the 1984. Is there a TRICK or do you have to take apart most of the right side to get the hoses back on. Got them off but WOW!!!

well what hoses are you replacing??
Usually the hoses that get replaced both go to the reservoir as well as replacing the reservoir since it has a permanent non cleanable filter
To replace the PS reservoir hoses remove the alternator and hang it from under the car with a coat hanger leave the wires connected.
Then put a pan under the rear of the PS pump and remove the feed line from the reservoir, let it drain then remove the short line from the reservoir to the return line.
Take a dremel and cut off the swage on the return line remove the hose and replace with similar hydraulic hose and secure it with a new screw clamp.
Fit the new feed line to the rear of the pump secure with a screw clamp.
refit the new reservoir to its mount and then fit the short line so it has free play and isnt kinked then fit the feed line from the PS pump.
Refill with Dextron3 or 4 start the car and inspect for leaks turning the wheels back and forth 10 times when you get to the steering lock dont hold the wheel against the stop it will damage the rack seals. No leaks then you can install the alternator.

Thank you. We are changing ALL but the one from the reservoir to the pump. The PO replaced the reservoir but not the hoses, go figure.
Trying to do the job WITHOUT dropping the alternator. Hoping my small hands helper can get the hose back on the pump.

If you soak the alternator in PS fluid you'll be sorry... really, just pull the alternator. Makes the job a piece of cake.

MMMMMMMMMMMMM I hate this job. When I did mine (pressure line to rack had a pinhole spraying oil down the shock tower), the @#$^& fitting into the pump rear was jammed, and I had to remove the alternator and the PS pump (complete with hose attached), and then I could straighten the mental end tube to allow me to undo the hose tube nut. It is also a bear to get hoses to go back onto the reservoir fittings, so I added an adaptor into the circuit, and I ran one hose around in a 270 degree loop so its end was accessible and easy to fit the clamp to it.

Hi,

I have a leak where the two hoses connect to the reservoir; I’ve just ordered from Porsche the hoses and a new reservoir that will be coming shortly.
With Mrmerlin instructions I think this won’t be a very painful job! I hope….

Regards

+1 on dropping alternator to provide access to pump connections. If you drag a little stool or similar under car you don't even need to hang the alternator.

Helps to have crow's foot wrench to undo one of the connections (high pressure line I think?) as there isn't enough room for a socket head behind there.

Don't forget new copper crush washers!

Just saw a set of swivel 3/8-drive crowfoot tube wrenches at H-F. I need to go back and grab a set before all you PS fixers learn they are there...

Don't see them at the online catalog either. Guess I'll have to go back to the store and get them. Should have grabbed them the first time.

Job finished, no problem at all moved the alternator and was home free.
Now I am raplacing all the injection lines since they are brittle. Wish they still made the push on kits. Well I do not like the looks of the clamps BUT that is what we can get these days.
I will do both 928's then the V12 H&E. Since they are all the same injectors and hose sizes.
Thanks for the advice on the PS lines.

HF as in Harbor Freight? The one Augusta Ga. has NOTHING like that.

I'll get by there tomorrow if it isn't raining in the morning. With the part number in hand we can do more, like have your store order a set for you.

I really should have grabbed that set when I saw it. I have a lot of tools, but there's no such thing as 'too many tools', right?

That is true. As I tell the wife it is a guy thing. Then I ask is there such a thing as " to much Chocolate". That is where I win
