I hate to be disingenuous and do this to you guys, but I'm changing the asking price to $3500. This is due not to the community but a review of receipts and discussing it with my father. I really don't like to do this because of all the generous comments received in the thread so far. Let me say that none of the comments thus far reflect the new price, and you are free to hate me.

Sorry if anyone got the wrong idea, but I did not want to bait & switch.

Better to put that out there now than after someone makes a hike to SC with $2,800 in hand. Maybe $700 less of a 'screaming deal', but at $3,500, it still seems like a good deal to me.
That interior is very cool, btw.

Nonsense. A bait and switch is when what is sold is not what is represented. Or if he told someone $2800, had them come to get it and then said $3500 once they arrived.

Nothing has been misrepresented. Nobody has been duped. He has changed his price and he has made it clear. There is absolutely nothing unethical or unfair about what he's done.

As for asking why he thinks it will sell at the new price: that's his business and he isn't required to answer.

Good luck with the sale. I love the color and the interior and the engine. Not buying, but I like to look.

I bought a fully running parts car (a '80 Euro S 5spd actually) for $4500 once... Sold just about EVERYTHING out of that car and thus the engine (the part I wanted) didn't even cost me $1k when it was all said and done as I recall! This car is nicer than that car was by a pretty wide margin, but this all went down 10 years ago...

It has been said before. Rennlist is the WORST place to try to sell a car. People here will rip it to tiny shreds and try to steal it from you. You can change your asking price 100 times up to the point that someone offers you what you are asking. Once the asking price has been met, it becomes something shady. Until then, it's your perogative to change the price as you see fit. Good luck with the sale.

My advice, get the car running properly and you will have no problem getting your asking price. Telling someone that they need to pour a little gas into the airbox to get it started is not the way to instill confidence in the car. Also, vacuum the interior and take some new pics.

Imo000, give the guy a break. Isn't it possible that Leo's a nice guy who's trying to offer this group first shot at his car at a fair price?
Everybody has the right to their opinion, but this was no bait and switch and that's a fact:
Bait and switch defined:Unless he actually lied or misrepresented the car by describing another car or switched the price at the time of purchase, accusing Leo of 'bait and switch' is like accusing him of fraud. A little harsh, I'd say.
Just like lowering the price on an item in light of a lack of interest, a seller has every right to raise the price on an item in light of overwhelming interest before anybody makes a commitment to buy. Has anyone actually made a commitment to buy by taking a trip down there, making a deposit or wiring the funds?
Now whether he's been disingenuous, that's opinion. I don't see any lack of sincerity on his part.
If anything he can be accused of being wishy-washy or jumping the gun before pricing his car.
If I were interested in the car, I'd suggest that Leo lower the price, describe everything that's even remotely wrong with the car in explicit detail, not mention any pluses, and remove any flattering pictures from his post
If I were to suggest a good approach to honestly represent the car and get a fair price for it, I'd second what Fabio says above.

Ah man, I do love this place. So the gas thing is just related to whether or not you have the gas pedal down a little while cranking it. I just assumed any older manual car was this way (a bunch of friends have similar symptoms). I'll start putting it around local places, and definitely get new pictures.
