Congrats to your beautiful GT! I hope you can avoid the infamously famous UK speed cameras. My home town near Stuttgart once had the highest density of those per capita in Germany, but I'm sure that other municipalities have overtaken them by now.

Talking about Stuttgart: If you ever have a chance to drive the car to its birth place, I highly recommend visiting both the Porsche and the Mercedes museums.

On the way, you would experience some nice stretches of unlimited Autobahn, but make sure you keep a close eye on the oil level when going crazy for prolonged times. More than a few GT and GTS engines have suffered in long Autobahn bends.

BTW: If you ever want to match your side flashers to the clear front turn signals, I can help - you can get them as lenses only, or as complete plug and play assemblies.

Hi Nicole. Previous owner did the front indicators and gave me the side clear indicators which is on the list of things to do. Does smarten up the car...

Awesome! Did he just supply the lenses, or complete drop-in assemblies (lenses with reflector housing)?

He might have been one of my customers...

Hi Dan,

If you would like to quieten down your GT a bit, obviously you can go back to the original muffler (S4 will work as well as GT but is quieter and heavier). Another option you might like to think about it Paul Anderson's new "sports back box". Designed to work with x-pipes, it is a muffler / silencer but much smaller and lighter than the OEM item and gives a lovely sound when paired wth X pipes. Not too loud at cruise as well.

I had one on my old S4 manual.

Cheers,

Joel

Hi Joel,
To be honest the noise is not an issue. With so much low down torque I don't need to rev much in casual driving, and when I rev it up its a goood noise. More an issue is the car may be a de-cat as it gets pretty smelly with windows down. Will investigate at some point.
Not sure where the cat is in the chain or which mods remove it.

Dan,
The cats are attached to the exhaust manifolds.

Thinking about it, the previous owner mentioned that it's decat is not an MOT problem as its pre-'93. Had the sunroof open this afternoon- I do get wafts of the exhaust!
Would like to recat. Is that easy?

Get the idle CO adjusted to 1%. Shouldn't smell at that Porsche specified level.

Hi Tom- cheers.

John: "Get the idle CO adjusted to 1%."
Not quite with you. Is there a method of 'tuning' the emissions?

Yes, there is a mixture adjusting screw on your MAF. Your best bet on how to do it is to go to John's web page.

BTW, welcome to the list. I am based in Blackheath and have 2 of these lovely beasts. Fiat 20v - lovely piece of American design and italian engineering. The only Bangle creation other than the Z4MC that I like...

On your GT, the idle pot on the MAF is not in circuit. To adjust idle CO, there is a pot mounted just above the middle of the fuse/relay panel, a slotted brass adjuster. Turn anti-clockwise to weaken the mixture, or clockwise to richen.

Several turns may be required as it is a 20 turn pot. If CO stops moving then don't continue to turn the pot as it has no hard end stops but can be damaged by repeated turning when at the end of its travel.

Thank you chaps. Will check this out. I have a feeling the previous owner had his MAF referbished fairly recently so will rummage through the paperwork as well.
It might just be the decat makes the exhaust smell more prominent...

Check the idle CO readings from the last MOT if that was after the MAF was changed. THe idle CO should be around 1%.
