Congratulations! Mine is an 88 as well.

And $1200 enclosed it CHEAP. Prices have sure come down on auto transport. They were getting a bit out of hand for a while there.

Enjoy the car (and the watch) Sanjay

The fun of the drive is very true as long as the car at LEAST gets a road survey, fluids, tires, brakes etc are in working order. In the 50 plus years of getting cars with my dad and now me I have more horror stories than fun trips to talk about. I guess it comes with age the older you get the less you want anymore problems.
Enjoy the car and remeber there are NO DUMB QUESTIONS!!!
Irpman - if you still have the hauler and the time, do you want to pick the car up for me? I would rather pay a Rennlist member and 928 fan than some stranger. Also, I would love to hear your impressions of the car. I am just a couple of hours away from you and I can meet up with you anytime.

Just a thought...

Thanks Chris. I had a car shipped from Chicago 4 years ago and that was $500 (open transport). I figured that since this trip is 3 times the distance and gas prices have gone up and this would be enclosed, it would be at least $2000. I was pleasantly surprised at the quote.

Can't wait for the watch!

Welcome to the forum & the world of 928 ownership!

I flew one-way to DFW to pick up my car and drove back to Charlotte. I only had 1 mishap with a corroded fuel pump fuse... thankfully not during the triple digit shakedown run on I-20 at Oh-dark-thirty in Louisiana!

Eurowerks & Jim Burton is the man to see for 928s in the Carolinas... he was a mechanic apprentice at Hendrick Porsche when these cars were new, so he got a LOT of hands-on experience right out of the gate. I proudly have my 928 serviced there when the need arises.

I am in Charlotte, as is Dan (Manfred on RL), Bill Dunster (paint & body pro -currently PPG paint rep), Chuck Zachman (Chuck Z on RL and runs 928Registry.org), Steven Zakely (PCA AutoX) and some more. Plus, some regular RL contributors are also here in NC within a few hours like David (cold_beer839) and Rick (rixter)...

We are fortunate to have Dave & Jeannie with 928 Specialists virtually in our back yard. They have been a saving grace for any parts my S4 has needed -and quickly!

If you are not yet a PCA member -the local chapter meets every 3rd Thursday of the month. We alternate between a couple of locations, but the next meeting is 1/21/10 at the Waldhorn Restaurant in Pineville (South Charlotte). Folks start arriving around 6 pm with meeting starting at 7 pm.

Again, welcome & congrats!

Thanks Barry. I look forward to meeting all of you soon. I live in Ballantyne (about 3 miles from Waldhorn) so I will definitley plan on being there.

Sorry David, I haven't taken delivery of the car yet and the listing on ebay has been taken down so I don't have any pics. I had one that I emailed myself; let me see if I can get that up.

I'm having trouble attaching a photo, but I was able to use it as my avatar. It isn't the best quality picture, but this is the only thing I have right now. The PO described the wheels as "GTS"...can anyone shed light on this?

Those are 993 Turbo Twist style wheels (doubtful that they are the actual hollow spoke Turbo wheels). Very nice wheel design, but maybe looking just a touch dated these days. Car looks great from that pic you have!

Again, welcome to the group! You will have lots of support in your area!

Just checking back Sanjay... how goes the 928 delivery? Any chance to have it here by Thursday's PCA meeting?

I forgot to add... when I flew one way to Dallas to pick up mine, I had already purchased insurance on it -just in case. If you decide to pick it up & drive back yourself, I would strongly encourage having insurance for a worst-case scenario. It will cover you & the car even though the title has yet to be transferred (you will already have all the purchase paperwork). Just a thought.

See you in a couple of days...

Hi Barry, I went back and forth on the decision to ship or drive; in the end, I decided to have it shipped. I just have too much stuff to catch up on at home and work from my 3 week vacation over the holidays. Besides, the shipping time is about the same as if I drove it home my self.

The PO has a few things ot fix on the car first before shipping it. He has everything done except the rear wiper. He is hoping to receive the new arm today from 928 International (he placed the order last week). Once he has that, he will be ready for the transporter to pick it up - hopefully tomorrow morning. Unfortunatley, I probably will not receive it until this weekend.

You and I think the same way...I called my insurance agent last week and told him to start coverage; it's worth the few dollars for the peace of mind.

Most likely, I will not have it for Thursday, but definitely for the meeting after that. I already met with Jim at EuroWerks (very nice guy) and told him a little about the car. He will look it over for me when I get it. Hopefully, the weather next week will be as nice as the last few days here so I can get in a nice drive.

I look forward to meeting you in a few days.

Sanjay

Update...

1. I spoke to the PO earlier today and he has everything done. Hopefully, he can get it on the transport with the next day or so and I should have it by this time next week.

2. I went to my first PCA meeting tonight; it was fun. With 1 exception (I will post a new thread on that).

3. Big ups to Barry (aka White Lightnin') for introducing me to everyone. BTW Barry, I saw you car on the way out and all I call say is "WOW!". I originally wanted to keep mine as original as possible, but after seeing yours, I want to do a few of the things you did, especially the antennae...I love the shark fin look.

Oooops. I got a toothache and completely forgot to go to the PCA meeting. Maybe I will catch you at the next one that comes down to the south end of town.
