I thought they were rebuilt pumps? The failures predated the new lasso, didn't they?

Mr Merlin,
I agree as very few were new.
Most of the issues were with rebuilds.
Both the Laso's that I am aware failed were old style with the metal impeller direct fit to the seal cartridge shaft. Certainly the Texas stroker.
Since we reported the issue to Laso they modified the design to include an extra sleeve between the impeller and the shaft. Since that point we have seen no further failures of Laso pumps.
Laso also listened to us in that we wanted a new build pump with a plastic impleller and that is about to happen.
Laso have certainly taken on board our issues and done what has been asked to resolve them.
The same cannot be said for Porsche or the rebuilders.

Greg's (Brown) was certainly a new but old stock Laso pump.
He reported that in his main thread.
This is new news that Greg (Blown 87) was a new design Laso.
Or maybe he is bored and just stirring the pot.

I did not say or mean to imply which style pump mine was, only that it was a new Lasso.

It did not have a new style fitting for the impeller and it did not come from you Roger, not trying to stir the pot at all, not bored either, just cold.

I think that most folks who have had a impeller get into the block are going to be a bit reluctant to use a metal impeller.

My hat is off to you Roger for trying to help by getting Lasso to make a plastic impeller.

I am finding this weather rather funny. We have had a total of 3 days of snow (all in dec) and no more. It has been getting upto +11 C here lately. I honestly think that we will see no more snow here this year....

Well i put a new style Laso with the extra bushing on the impeller on my yellow car, now just waiting for the snow to go away

I have the Laso Pump fitted and up and running now (metal impeller, and I did notice the different shaft arrangement for the impeller).
All good no problems and glad to be back on the hwy again. Took a 1000 or so K drive in 45*C heat over the last few days with no cooling issues
I have noticed the coolant temp rise at idle - granted it was very hot outside, but I haven't noticed this before. Would Laso have moved the position of the impeller more forward (away from the block) with thes pumps??
Like I said, it's no problem because it only gets to 45 here only a few days a year (thank god for that!!), it's just something I have noticed that the engine has never done before. Could be thermostat sticking open???

Glenn,
I check all the pumps personnaly and have not seen any difference in the position of the impeller.
In 100F plus temperatures here in TX I do see some upward movement of the temp gauge, especially at idle in traffic.

I've seen nor heard of any failures of the "second generation" Laso pumps.....as Roger says.

I am a bit concerned about plastic impellers, for use in high performance engines. We are currently installing Porsche pumps on most street 928s...simply because they are the best. When the customer can't justify the price, we then will install a Laso, but will not warranty it or anything associated with it.

However, since we think the plactic impeller on a Porsche pump will not hold up to the sudden change in rpms of a high performance engine...we are running Laso metal impellers on high performance engines.

It will sure be nice when we get our high performacne pump done and we can use one pump on everything. This whole water pump thing causes way too much brain damage.
