Default Hvac lamp

Hi,

Quick question, what is wattage of the lamp behind the Hvac panel?
Is it a 12v 1,2w lamp like the ones on the dashboard?
Maybe I’m not looking as I should but I cant find it in the Pet!

TIA

Regards

BTW, don't succumb to the temptation to replace that bulb or others in the warning panel (door lock/central warning) with an LED/Resistor combination.

I did that, with the thought that the LED would last forever and would provide a nice whiter light.

What did happen was that the lights never go entirely off and the AC light behaves unpredictably. Of course, I only tested for basic function before re-assembly, so the odd behavior was not noticed till that night after everything was reassembled.

I suspect it is related to the different impedance of the LED/Resistor combination, but have not had the time to remove that panel again for further testing so that is only a guess.....

Ken
I replaced all mine with no resistor 12v led's and have no problem.
The output is great especially on the HVAC head and ac button.

So, I have pointed out the wrong way to do it, and Joe has pointed out the right way...

Joe,

I based my replacements on the LED's I saw on e-bay that were for 12v.
All seem to be LEDs with resistors soldered in line ( which is what I did).
Example here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/15p-3mm-pre-wire...item2c528527ba

What source did you use for true 12v LED's?

My original reasons for using LED's are still valid, long bulb life and nice light, so if I have to pull the console apart and replace them, I'd like to do it the right way...

Hi,

Thanks for your opinions and advices.
I was just thinking of replacing the Hvac 12v1,2w bulb with a 12V direct replacement Led, trying to have a more bright light in the controls.
Also to replace the pod buttons bulbs.
This is the replacement bulb I ordered, they say it’s a direct replacement. Do you think it will work just “plug and play”?

Hi, can anyone point a thread or give here an instructions how to replace broken bulb in HVAC-unit? I have 12v on connector pin 3 in a car side and I also checked that lamp didn't came on by giving power from external battery to pins 3 and 4.

So bulb is broken but how can I replace it? I assume that red wire is ending to the bulb but that about all.

Thanks for any advice

Will look up the seller when I get to home comp.

Thanks, I already read all threads that came with key words "HVAC bulb" or HVAC lamp". Still no specific instructions how to get bulb out without breaking anything. Can I just pull it backwards or do I have turn it 1/4 turn before pulling?

Be careful of bending the fiber op's, the bulb is just pressed in to the housing, just like te dash *****. I thought some of the LED threads explained all that, sorry.
I did mine w/LED's last winter, I would not go back to the stock look (but then I've owned the car for over 12 years and wanted to update it
