Fikse - Belly up, what now?

I'm sure most have heard that Fikse went under last year. I was just in the garage admiring the wheels on my car and pondering what option I would have now if I bent a rim section. My decision to purchase these wheels from Dave Roberts in '05 was somewhat weighted on the 3pc design offering the possibility of replacing a bent inner/outer rim which has not happened yet, these wheels are almost bomb-proof (Knock on wood).
At the time Fikse went out of business I was pondering another set of FM10's for my 911 Targa, but now i am not so sure. Hind-site being 20/20, I did notice allot of deals on Fikse wheel packages from major wheel distributors just before they closed shop. Perhaps the writing was on the wall?
I wonder how this effects the value of the Fikse wheels that are still available stock or used wheels . Does it drive the price upward for something with now limited availability, and that to me seems desireable? Or, does it negatively impact their worth considering replacement rim sections will more than likely not be available?

You could swap them for some BBS wheels, a company that will be in business for a long time
Maybe some 18" BBS Sport Designs that are custom painted and chromed
You got lots of options

That would be good news if it's truly the case. Everything I have read, albiet on web-forums, is that they just suddenly closed shop without any prior notification or anything. I read of a few people that had sent wheels in to Fikse to be refurbished and they were unsure whether they would ever get them back because the company had shut down so suddenly and completely.

Ben,
I have a set of FM10's that were on a good friend of mine's '88 (or '89...I don't know) 930. Not sure if they will fit your targa, but I would be more than happy to sell them... They are a real PITA to keep clean! They are in ok condition. Not great, but not bad. They are excellent 8 footers for sure. One of the rears has a bend in it from a one wheel off track excursion by said friend, but it has never been a problem. They roll perfectly straight and balance well. You can see them in my calendar. They have been on my car for several years now and other than cleaning them I can't complain. I even have 3 extra fikse proprietary valve stems for the front wheels!

A sincere Thanks for the offer, but i am going to wait and see what pans out with Fikse. I am unaware of the financial situation, but I am hoping someone, perhaps a larger fish would see them as a business oportunity and pick up the ball.

Their are rumors that Fikse is being restructured and will be back in business soon. I sure hope so, they make very nice wheels.

"FIKSE is now a CANADIAN COMPANY
by jeff alton » Mon Dec 21, 2009 5:52 pm
Just thought I would let the enthusiast crowd know that Fikse has been acquired by a new group and the company will be based in BC, and doing all of its manufacturing here as well. I have close contact with the new ownership/management group and they are excited about bring the product line back to market. All of the assets have been procured and the first order of business will be making things "right" for those customers that currently did not get product they ordered and paid for.
We are excited about getting the product line going again and also working closely with local PCA members who are looking to put a set on their car.
Anyway, that is all for now, more to come!

Wow...I was there this past summer for a PCA sponsored tour of their facility in Kent, WA. Seemed like a nice operation and they appeared to be small but busy.. Had some nice mills in their shop.
