Default 944 Phone Dials for the 928S

I am thinking of buying a set of 4 Phone Dial Wheels for my 84' 928S. There are not many 928 versions around, though many listing for the 944 Phone Dials... Does anyone know if the 944 versions will fit the 928S? I am not sure of the offset for the 944...

thanks for any input...

The later 944 wheels will work. The early 944s used lower offset and will not fit. The breakpoint is the "85.5" model switch-over for the 944.

Look closely at diameters and widths. There are 16" phone dials out there with most being 15".

thanks, so will the 85.5++ 16" fit the 928? Also, does anyone know if the very early 928 phone dials will fit the 84 928S... when I look at the pics, it seems that the old 928 dials are not recessd like the 944s.

again, thanks for any and all input...

Actually 85.5-86 is early offset. 1985.5 has the dash change, but no offset change until 1987. 1987 Turbo phonies or later will be perfect. Most NA phonies are 15 inch.

The recessed (lipped) phonies are early 944 offset. These will not fit (will stick out) because of the more centered offset. 1987 or later 15 and 16 inch phonies are your best fit option. The good news is they can generally be had for little bux.

Thanks for the correction. No PET at the new job to verify factoids.

Am running 944 phones on the '81 now with no problems. The et is 52.3 8" and 7" rims. Not sure what et is on the chrome phones I have, but they were on my '90 944 cabriolet (need to get rid of them )

I used the 8"x16" 944 turbo phone dials with a 21mm spacer in the back and stock 928 7"x16" up front. I bought the 944 wheels used through Rixter who is a member here. Should be able to find a good used set of 944 turbo wheels out there somewhere.
