The rear air conditioning (vaporisor) can be controlled for levels of cold. No heat apart from the temperature of the cabin air.
With the right **** tuned to full you get max cooling of the cabin air being drawn in from the trunk area.
With the **** turned to minimium it just circulates cabin air.

The R12 GTS cars have the same condensor as the later R134a cars.

I have always said that R12 in a system designed for R12 will be better than converting to R134a.
In the case of the GTS I may be wrong. My GTS 134a AC is by far the best of all my cars.

I'm ready to remove my rear A/C unit as I bought a California car and brought it here to Canada. I got a much nicer interior from a 87 that didn't have rear A/C so I have to modify the rear seat brackets or get rid of the A/C I don't use or need. So if anyone needs a rear unit complete let me know as it's a weight goblin I don't want!

My wife's '93 968 with R134A from the factory is so cold it will freeze your face off when it's 100 deg F and 90% humid outside. When completely heat soaked, it takes just over 1.5 minutes for the compressor to bring the evaporator down to 32 deg F in those conditions. Why anyone would need better A/C performance than that is beyond me, unless they live somewhere where it is significantly hotter (i.e. a desert).

Do the later GTS'es have different condensers and/or evaporators? Even if they are the same size, a different type would greatly change the efficiency of the system.
