Joe I feel your pain it was about the same time last year that I had just replaced the front spoiler, belly pan (plastic) all brand new and had the front bumper cover repainted, the car looked great for about two months until I whacked the front end into the curb by backing out of a parking space. It shattered the belly pan and tore off many of the mounting brackets to secure the spoiler to the bumper cover and added some hair line cracks to the bumber cover . I think I cussed myself out for a few hours that night and the next morning .
Thanks to Roger I was able to replace most of the pices and upgrade from a metal pan instead of the stock. I think my next purchase will be those skid plates

Shadowknight - I'm thinking the skid plates are next on the list for me. I try to be careful, but I need a backup plan. I can't go around fixing the spoiler everytime I slip up.

Its only the $100 cost of the skidplates that gets me. I wish there were some skidplates that were cheaper. Anyone have used skidplates for sale? (hehe)

Randy - C'mon over the Jax and you can help me put on the spoiler.. I thought about doing it but you really need to lift the car to get those three/six bolts in the middle part on.

Dave - You are right. I am so pissed at myself for running up on the concrete stop, self inflected wounds ARE the worse.

VTY,
Joe

That repair looks real nice! Give that man a pat on the back and keep his address, even if only for other rennlisters.

Joe,

Use a couple of 2X6's about 3 feet long, Put them on the "barricade", and drive the car up on them. It will then be high enough to get the spoiler on. Maybe even folks in the parking lot would come help!!

Good luck, (and the skid plates are cheaper than a spoiler replacement!!)

$100 that seems very excessive.
We made some locally for a lot less than that.
Let me talk to my machine shop and see what we can do price wise.
I will make sure they fit properly as well 8>)

WOW! That is a great job! I need my '92 front spoiler refinished like that so it looks new too! The whole passenger side of the car looks brand new and the rest of the car is not bad either and the new Champagne pieces inside really make that look nice, now I just need a spoiler job like that and I'll be HOME FREE! I think you got a really good deal at $170 and super fast turn around!

James - The nice thing is he took out all the scratches and gouges, and refinished the underside of the spoiler, the side that faces the road. The new surface now has kind of a crackle finish, not sure if its paint or some kind of plastic coating.

I keyword searched Google for, "plastic bumper repair" + your zipcode, thats how I found a repair shop.

The way I found the source was a visit to the repair shop that came up in the search, called Carsmetics. The counter guy at Carsmetics said I should contact the company that repairs plastic bumpers for their shop.

The impression from the plastic bumper repair guy who did the job for me doesnt normally do business with the public, his company just does work for local repair shops and dealers.

Roger - Thanks, the skidplates are just some aluminum sheet that has been cut out and drilled.

At a $1-2 per pound for aluminum sheet plus the machining, the cost has to be less than $20-$25 for a pair (direct labor and materials) made is quantities of 30-50 skidplates at a time. I would think you could sell a lot of them for $40-$50 a pair, delivered (shipped via USPS).

The only thing is to know the grade and thickness of the aluminum sheet they are cut from.

Joe

Joe,
We agree nothing special about them at all. A local owner fitted a pair and had to make a lot of mods to get them to fit. The bolts also got in the way of the spoiler.
Give us a few days and we will have a better and more cost effective mouse trap.

Roger - Sounds great. Make the skidplates long enough and we can go sledding on them..'tis the season, haha.
