Default e-brake cable removal

Trying to remove the e-brake cable, already undid it from in the car and the cable itself is free. However I am removing the crossmember and it seems as thought the cable jacket that goes into the body should pull out like it does at the rear brakes.....?? Trying to get the x member out of the way so any tips on the easiest process would be appreciated!

The jacket should pull out (in theory) where it goes into the body aft of the e brake handle.

In practice it may well be stuck in there really hard by accumulated grit/sand/corrosion. When I did x member removal on a friends car in NZ ( to remove the AT and TT) we couldn't pull the jacket out by hand so decided that discretion was the better part of brute strength (didn't know how long we'ld have to wait for a new cable assy if we broke it) and left the X member connected by the cable, just swung it to one side out of the way.

We disconnected ours at the handbrake lever.

Then, on the underside of car, we put a pair of vicegrips on the cable sleeve and worked it a little bit. Its just a press fit sleeve.

It can then come out with the crossmember.

spray some PB blaster into the cable housing inside and outside of the car.
then work the housing fitting a bit with some pliers it should slide out

I had an opportunity to snap a picture of mine for you, for reference.

I'd forgotten about the O-ring
