Any suggestions on a real car cover? A real one with multi-laters, soft on the inside, and somewhat padded so as to protect from 7 year olds? And wives?
Does not need to be weatherproof.

Use of a "real" car cover requires keeping the car totally clean regardless of its soft and friendly insides. A cheap thin cover doesn't. I've got three of the latter type, one generic cotton, a tyvek, and a something else.
How about this, in all seriousness, use one of those bicycle pulley lifts and make a large drop down cover with a padded PVC pipe frame to keep some empty space between the cover and the car.

California car cover makes a nice custom cover for 928's. I think its what your looking for. Mine cost about $ 270.00 a year ago. Its an indoor cover BTW. There on the web.

Griot's Form-Fitting cover with a Noah cover over it.
And danglerb is correct: only a clean car cover on a clean car.

Back in the early 90's when I got my 928 I bought a Technalon (Evolution 4 by Kimberly-Clark) car cover for indoor use from JC Whitney. This was before internet so I ordered through their mail catalog. I still got it & use it today. It's still in great shape. Looks like they still sell it, here's a link if you want to check it out:

Word of advice. Don't use an indoor cover outdoors. I ruined my paint this way. I think the wind bolowing caused it to wear the clear coat in a few spots

This guy did a write-up on the different car cover fabrics. Here's his opinion on the good & bad of each type:
