Let me know when you plan to go look. If I can get away I might join you. I don't need another car so this is just for curiosity. Several years ago, one of the original SoCal928 founders Tommy E. had a car just like this. Blk/Blk. He was in the movie biz, lived in that neighborhood, and sold it about five years ago. 88 S4 5sp, similar wheels. Needed an ISV at the time it sold (for pennies on ebay...). Has some miles on it but was OK/average at the time. Could easily be the same car.
At this point, almost any reasonable S4 5sp is worth good money as a driver. There are GT projects around for about $10k, Carl's salvage in WI and another around here locally. They all will need $5k to make them safe/reliable to drive no matter what. That's before serious cosmetics, of course. The difference in market between a GT and the '88 5sp car is likely more than a few $k, and the salvage title makes that difference even bigger --if-- resale is a big issue for the buyer. For a driver, no worries if the reason was the common insurance/repair cost issue.

I cannot swing this car right now, but what a cool car to own if it is in decent shape.
Do you or Ryan know what to look for with respect to bad body damage? Not sure I do.
