Default Fuel tank

Ive just taken out my fuel tank, Im replacing all the pipes and seals. My car is an Euro 83, when I have taken it out, above the filler neck is a rectangle which has various teeth marks, what is this for. I will put a photo on tomorrow, is it some kind of connector to connect the top of the tank filler to the body of the car to ensure it fits properly, it hasnt got anything to screw to, and it doesnt look like anything has snapped off. Has anyone got any photos of the fuel accumulator on the same model car as mine, Ive ordered the new support but the holders have rotted off he car. Im currently patching the area up.

Many thanks

Peter

Hi mate,

Yes I was just waiting to take a photo, I thought I would give it a clean so you can see it properly, any way here it is, have a look, is this normal?

I believe it originally had an aluminum tab that was polded into the top. the tab then had an allen bolt which attached it to the body. the tab appears to have been broken or corroded off and is no longer present.

This isn't the best image (copied from another Rennlist post), but the tab is visable.

The tanks for the later models had additional mount points.

well if you open the fuel tank door and look just above it inside you might the other side of the tab thats bolted to the standoff inside the fuel filler door, it is just above where the cap would sit and to the rear

This is what the fuel accumulator looks like with all its fittings on an older car, however mine does not have the fuel filter in the rear whell arch and the accumulator is the other way up, has anyone a picture of what mine should look like, everythin had rotted on mine, so I need to repalce as new, welding the lot.

Many thanks

peter
