Plenty of cheaper options, for my black track car I am planning making sure I shake the can for a full minute before spraying.

If you don't have rust around the rear quarter windows, you can use weed trimmer line and stick it between the body and the quarter glass trim. This will lift the rubber trim up enough that during painting, it will not touch the body. After the paint dries, remove the trimmer line and the end result will look like the quarter window and trim was removed. This also works on any other rubber trim too!

I see what you mean that's an interesting tip, to try to save a little money in labor.

Why not just paint the fender? If you are actually using the car and not showing it, I cant see much point in thinking about painting the whole lot unless the rest of the paint is in poor condition.

A good shop can probably get the match close enough to just paint the fender, and not have to do any blending.

I repainted one of my rear fenders and rocker panels with a rattle can of base and clear. The job isn't perfect, but it's better than some professional jobs I've seen recently.

Ben,

Look carefully at some of the other pics of the car... you will see lots places that REALLY need paint! Both rear Q panels at the back near the bumper cover, both front and rear bumper covers... If he could find a decent sub $3k job like Kevin was talking about he should JUMP ON IT! He would have something to be very proud of but drive every day and not worry about it!

This is a recipe for a TERRIBLE paint job.

For concours quality, you also have to shake the can for ten seconds between coats.

I have pulled plenty of rear quarter windows out, everyone had rust. It just depends on how much.

I think the price of the paint job will depend on the local economy, if the economy is good expect a drop off job to cost $20K, if will cost that here, I can garantee that. Especially if you do what I do and paint the insides too.

This is how the one I bought looked before the PO had it repainted. Wrong blue in my case wut will be fine for now. I thought in 50 years playing with cars I knew all the tricks but that fishing line is neat.
I have access to do our own paint job and just might go with REAL Lacquer since I can not shoot 2 part for anything, to old I guess.
Please post pictures if you get it done.

Greg we have a product like that, it is called lifting tape and it also comes in varying sizes. BUT the 928 quarter windows are not a place where you want to do this. Just not enough room to lift and still be comfortable that it won't delaminate. I guarantee that it would. Even on our lowest end jobs the quarter windows come out, it is only a 5 min. job out and a 5-minute job back in per side.
