New car pics and questions
Well this is the new one. Please note the description on the dealer sheet, 4 cyl. No there is a VERY healthy V8 under the hood.
VIN is WP0JA0927CS821059
AS you can see a LOT better than the gold one.
NOW the questions:
1. Why or why not a K&N, this has one.
2. Brakes, MIGHT need pad since the light is on on the dash. Recommendation for street driving.
3. Oil type, I use 20/50 Castrol in most cars and Mobil 1 in the others.
4. Tires, has new, 1,200 mile, Kuhmo I always use Michelin tires, opinion.
Well here are the shots, still in the trailer.

That looks MUCH, MUCH better!
Castrol, Mobil 1...whatever. Used'em both, like them both...
Could be brake pads, but I don't have any suggestions. Stock pads are fine, there could be cheaper alternatives though. On the S4/GTS cars the stock pads generate A LOT of brake dust. Does not seem to bad on the OB and S cars though... It could be that the pad sensors are broken or something too and you could have perfectly good pads, you need to figure that out though.
Some people say the K&N flows no more air than the stock 928 filter and does not do a really good job filtering either... Some of my cars have K&N, some have stock. I doubt there is much difference either way.
Kuhmo tires are on all but two of my 7 928's right now. The '88S4 has BFG and the race car has Goodyear Eagle racing slicks...I like them fine. They are cheap and seem to perform well enough.

The boss did good at $3,700.00 into the trailer price. I feel a little bad for the sailor that owned the car but they should have been a little smarter on what a 928 was.
Now all I need is the temp to get up enough so we do not get frost bite unloading. Heck it is 28 deg in Aiken, GLOBAL WARMING, YEA RIGHT!
Will try the reset on the sensors since the battery was disconnected for transport, hate fires.
The only REAL problem is getting the grill and spoiler. I know where there is a PARTS CAR if I need anything else

I would only use a factory air filter you will never notice a difference in performance but you will be wondering how all that dirt got into the filter housing behind the air cleaner if you have a kn

1. K&N is a hotly debated topic on various 928 boards. Possible drawbacks are 1) too much oil on the filter can lead to residue on the MAF sensor wire (not an issue for you), and 2) there are concerns that the minimum particle size the K&N filter allows through may be too large compared to stock paper.
2. For street driving, hard to go past PBR pads for combination of price/quality (also sold as "Repco" I believe in the US?) Check with the usual 928 supplier suspects
3. Oil type - check the owners manual, then find out what oils there are with high levels of ZDDP that meet the specs. From memory, castrol don't have any good high-ZDDP forumulations, but I could be wrong - don't know much about US oil brands, and forumulations differ by country and emissions regs.
4. I've had Kumho, Goodyear, Sumitomo and Dunlop on my 928's so far.. Kumho were ok in dry, but not as good in the wet compared to Dunlop's or Sumitomo. I'd stick with them until you've been through the brakes, suspension, engine etc. to make sure the car is performing well.

The K&N lets to much crud into the engine. Stick with paper as already said.
PBR pads are great and at about $30 an axle set great value for money. Made in Australia so can't be bad.
I use and recomend Royal Purple 20W 50 as it has the high levels of ZDDP our cars need to reduce wear.

Nice trailer.
I don't think K&N is a real issue in an early car, just the later MAF cars where oil on the wire is a concern.
Don't use a SM rated low zinc oil and you should be fine.
Check the DOT date of manufacture on the tires, older than 3 years and the speed rating should be reduced. Kumho makes a decent cheap tire, put on Pilot Sports after its sorted out if you like.

Trailer is VERY best up from the track wars.
So Royal Purple, that is what we are going to in the modified in 2010 if they come up with a LITTLE sponsorship, 10% would be nice.
DOT on the tire is 2009. PO JUST bought them.
Looks like I will order the tune-up package from 928 since you all think the paper is better or as good. It is STILL crappy here so it is still snug in the trailer.
Here is a picture of the 7.5 mpg rig we use to move this stuff around.
IF anyone is in the Aiken S.C. area and needs help with a move just ask all I charge is a bottle of water and gas. If it is a short run then no gas.
PS: Any of you with a business want a FREE LINK on our new Porsche only page at Leatherique JUST ASK. I will link to this forum if they wish.
