Default 17" Front & 18" Rear, why not?

Just wondering if anyone is using this combo, and what’s would be the down side?
I am looking to put larger (wider tires on the back and finding that the 17" selections are somewhat limited.

Thank you,

DaveK9

c5 corvettes have this set up, I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.

Thanks Matt that is kind of my thinking and as long as I select the correct tire size it should not be all that noticeable.

What particular wheels are you considering?

I don't see a problem, and I've thought about doing the same.

I don't see a problem if the tire size compensates for the difference in rim diameter.

Jarrod;Well the easiest for me as I just purchased new 17” BFG G-Force tires on the front would be to get a front matching pair of 993’s just in an 18” x 10 or even 10.5” and swap them out for those “special” days.

But I am also thinking of a completely new set of 5 spoke in black, unless I stumble upon some used 18” 993’s.

Thanks Aryan yes that is what I was going to do.

I need more traction, I was just trying to edit a video for posting that Andrew shot in my car a few weeks ago, man she really breaks loose in first and second !

She is quite capable of running with the Big Dogs now

Mille Miglia made some 18x10 ET47 Cup II replicas (aka 993 Cup). Those are what I've considered running on the rear of my GT. However, they haven't been produced for about 5 years now and I believe the company has since gone out of business. Those wheels occasionally pop up for sale, but they are indeed hard to find.

Absent those, I'm looking for a pair of 17x9 ET55 OEM Cup II's (the stock GTS rear wheel) to run on the rear. Up front, I have a pair of 17x9 ET70 Cup II's awaiting rubber. A separate pair of 17x8 ET70 Cup II's will be placed for sale in the very near future.

Wow thanks for the great info Jarrod, I think the cup II's in the 18x10 would be the bomb !
Now just to find a pair as they are no longer in production.

I've got 19" rears for my GTS and just bought a set of 18" fronts to try out. Sean said in the RW thread the ABS might be a problem though.....

Can't imagine ABS being issue if you choose the right tire to keep the diameter in spec.

That's not correct, the only thing the ABS cares about is the rolling radius (effective tire diameter), so just dig through the tire specs and pick a rear tire with a diameter that is close to the front.

The only other issue I can think if is that the front sidewall will be a bit taller and therefore softer, which might make the initial turn-in softer (i.e. initial understeer in a quick transient). But bigger rear tires cause understeer anyway so it probably doesn't make any real difference.

...Or at least equal in front-to-rear overall diameter ratio relative to stock. I.E. if stock both front and rear have about 25 inch diameters, you could theorize that going 26 inches both front and rear wouldn't be a problem, but 25" front and 26" rear might be. Just a thought, might see if any of the other popular packages (ex. Carrera III's) alter the front to rear diameter ratio.

EDIT: Jim beat me to the punch, saying basically the same thing.

I think it would look swwet. I like the staggard look as I feel it gives a nice looking stance! IMO

Here's a link to some Mille Miglias like I'm referring to that were for sale a year or so ago. It's in the member to member section, so if you're a user you probably won't be able to view this:

https://rennlist.com/forums/for-sale...lica-cups.html

I realize that by posting this link to these beautiful wheels, I risk creating more buyers in the marketplace for these wheels. Wheels that I, myself, am longing for. Therefore, with this in mind, I call GLOBAL DIBS! on any such wheels that may be for sale now or in the future.
