im in the process of doing this same style upgrade to my brakes. and when i jacked up the car the POS aluminum ball joint popped out on the driver side.... so they are indeed trash.

They are aluminum bits so I need to replace them. Do I need the ball joints and all the eccentrics as well?

you need the steel joints, 2 more eccentrics (you can keep two of the ones you have now) and eather use the same shock/ball joint bracket, or get the newer updated ones. i got the newer ones so the "complete" update is done. but that was another 160 i did not want to spend.... ah well.
