OK, I won't bite. Whatever it's called, this particular car had me from the beginning. After educating myself on the changes over the years, and US vs. Euro, this one had everything going for it in terms of what I like most - the "older style" front and rear end, the S spoilers, even the earlier seats with the cut out below the headrest. Euro specific, I liked the higher output 16v engine, the side marker turn signal repeaters, the H4's, and the fuel economy guage (silly as it is). The fact that it was one owner, nothing was hacked up, low miles (but driven consistently between 1,000 and 2,000 miles each year - not stored away for years at a time), and seems to have spent its non-driving time in a garage and under a cover, sealed the deal for me. In fact, I did something I told myself I wouldn't do - bought it before selling my 911SC.

I do enjoy reading the feedback and it is all educational. Thanks!

Exactly! This car looks/sounds like a real find! Roger is correct on the rear bumper cover though. Perhaps changed to add the bumperettes (sp?)?

Chuck, not that I am counting, but I make the rear bumper cover observation in post #3...

TV, you are right, you can have bumperettes and fog lights. I had speculated in that post 3 that during the federalization process (unless the car has been hit from behind at some point requiring the replacement of the rear bumper cover then) that the particular shop felt like they needed to remove the rear fog and add the bumperettes and thus chose just to change out the cover...

The above said, that is not very logical since the RI (Registered Importer) at the time DID NOT add the US position side markers (that many RI's really screw up and make look TERRIBLE).

Brian, I LOVE your GTS... Oh, wait its an OB, no it's an S... whatever, it is GORGEOUS and drive it in GREAT health and I hope it will bring you many years of joy!

Very best to you!

Not necessary to change the bumper cover for the bumperettes. A little investigative work might help here.
I would be interested to see if the rear inner bumper posted are fixed (Euro) or "shock tubed" (US). Some gray market Euro's still have the fixed post, most do not. Look to see if it has the shock post, and if so inspect it closely to see if it ever was impacted.

+1 James. That's why I suggested looking for impact damage. Everything might have been fixed just fine. But I've heard of them reusing the impact absorbers.

sure you are......... j/k James! Sorry, I don't pay complete attention some times. Wife accuses me of that ALL the time! Nobody knows more about the federalization process than you having actually done it.

OK, guys and girls, here are some pics from this morning of my new 84 Euro 5-speed. The pics aren’t the best, but better ones will have to wait until warmer weather! As some may have read in other threads, I recently bought this car from the original owner in Pittsburgh and drove it home to Boston last week. It has 33,xxx original, documented miles. I have all service records from new, including the original title from the importer, and the original bill of sale.

I was attracted to this particular 928 for a number of reasons – 1 owner, low miles, unmolested all original, OB, 5-speed, extremely clean, Euro that was not mucked up during federalization (no hideous side markers, Euro H-4’s in tact, cats removed soon after federalization, although I wonder where the rear fog light went), etc. It has the M28/21 dual distributor engine and runs very well. I had the TB/WP service done before I drove it home, and I plan a few deferred maintenance things (brake/clutch fluid flush, gear oil change, rubber fuel lines, brake hoses, etc.) just for peace of mind. There are a few other things that need attention over time – rear hatch release (motor works, but doesn’t pop), rear wiper (disengages after ½ wipe), windshield washer pump seems dead, AC, occasional grinding of gears (suspect clutch adjustment or bleeding).

I couldn’t be happier! Driving it is like driving a new car. It’s a bummer that as soon as I got it home, winter has set in – I can’t wait for spring to detail it and tackle some of the little issues.

I do want to address the clutch/gear grinding issue ASAP and will have a shop look into that, which leads to this question – who in the Boston area knows these cars, especially clutch/transmission?

Also, I now need to sell my well-sorted 83 911SC Coupe – will be posting ads for that soon.

Looking forward to some Boston area GTG’s.
That is a great introduction and a very good looking OB. Good luck with it.

If that car has the Bilstein shocks from the factory, they can be rebuilt for $65 each by Bilstein in CA. Well worth doing, even with the low miles.
My friend picked up a 27K mile '85 euro in '04 and the shock seals were toast. His rebuilt Bilsteins are 100%.
Nice find.
Does the '84 have blade or torpedo fuses?

I too have an an 84 euro, yours looks nicer than mine. Mine has just over a 100,000 miles on it. Mine was not terribly federlized, no front side marker lights were installed, the H4's were retained, a cat was installed but removed by the PO,

Looks like you got a great car.

Very nice car, I have an 84 and 85 Euro S, but not remotely in as nice of shape.

Looks like it totally escaped ANY federalizing, which does make me a bit curious about its importing. If you wouldn't mind listing the VIN one of the guys might be able to research the origins and options a bit.

Euro S has the best exhaust sound of all the 928's, a bit of tinkering to make it suit your taste is very rewarding.

Of course, mine's an '83 w/CIS...(RoW)

Default More pics, VIN, Rear Bumper Shocks

I managed to snap a few more pics of interest. Below are some of the Euro specific switches - headlight adjustment and rear fog light switch (althought my light is MIA), which leads to the rear bumper mounts, which look to me to be the 5 mph shocks. Interesrting to note that the bolts have red paint marks - does this indicate a factory install?? And finally, a pic of the option sticker with VIN. I was able to decode all but 2 of the option codes. Not sure what 327 is. It is interesting to note that 347 indicates platinum anodized wheels, which my car seems to have, but that code is not on my sticker.

E37 ??
327 ??
415 Wider Rear Track - (what does this mean??)
438 Comfort Seat Right
454 Automatic Speed Control
468 Graduated Tint Windshield, Green Side Glass - (I have the Sekuraflex windsheild)
474 Sport Shock Absorbers - (Bilsteins??)
650 Sunroof
