I put in a new regulator and brushes and mine was fine for years. Eventually it got weak again. I brought it to a local auto-electric specialty shop that does a ton of top end restoration work. I told them it was for a european car without being specific. They rebuilt it for $60 bucks and it's been great ever since..Otherwise I'd check the part number cross-reference index at the parts store to make sure that the exact same alternator # isn't spec'd at 20% less in some other application....fleecing just annoys me.
