Default drive without compressor

Hi everyone,
The compressor for the airconditioning is leaking on my 88S4. I want to have it rebuilt now and then have it installed when it starts to get warmer. That means the compressor would be out of the car and I would be driving the car while it is not installed. Is it OK to drive the car without the compressor present? Or could that cause problems?
thanks!

No problems at all, but you may want to cap the lines to prevent any additional contamination and secure them so they aren't bouncing around while driving.

SEE IF YOU CAN GET SOMETHING TO SEAL YOUR LINES, You don't want anything in your closed system. You will need to replace the receiver dryer for sure.

Hey Aryan, I was thinking of just getting it done at the shop where I bought the car. It's Vlasbom Porsche Tuning in Uden, although it sounds like he's actually going to send it out to someone. He's quoted 450 euro, I haven't checked around to see if that's a good price. Might check that guy in Hilversum too. What do you think?

Holy crap that's expensive. Even with shipping internationally this one would probably be half that (and you get to keep your old one):

If all labor and recharing is included in the 450 euro I'd say it is a pretty good price. I was imagining about 600 Euro for a complete job. If it's just the compressor (with/without core change?) it sounds about what you'd pay for a reconditioned one at one of the vendors on this board.

Vlasblom is - as you probably know - very knowledgeable when it comes to 928's. I have been doing some research before and was planning to pay these guys http://www.autoairco-marx.nl/ a visit to get a feel for their professionalism and a price check. Haven't done that yet, but you might want to check them out.

Yeah, I think it's including labor and the rest. Haven't had a chance to talk to him yet live.

First...........yes you can run the car without the a/c compressor. Leave the lines attached to the pump and disconnect them from 1) the condensor and 2) the line on the passenger side inner fender. Once disonnected tape off the connections as mentioned.

I bought a rebuilt Porsche a/c compressor from Roger (928sRus) for ~$400 US. I also replaced the main hoses as the originals were shot as well as the Orings (green). I changed the oil in the compressor to be compatible with R134a.

The project was completed with a new receiver drier and a freon charge..........works excellent to the point of being too cold
