Stephen,

I've been driving in PCA DE's with about 10 different regions on about 12 different tracks over the past 8-10 years. One of the first things your instuctor will probably tell you that "learning" to drive on a road type race track is not about going fast - it's about driving smoothly and finding/following the best line around the track. Speed comes naturally after you learn the smoothness. IF you become infected with track driving, like so many of us do - resist the temptation for more power, and spend $ on better tires/wheels/suspension parts and seats/harness. The OE seats (even sport seats) are OK or even great for street driving, but are unsatisfactory for track driving when you advance into the intermediate and higher run groups.
As an "old guy" infected with this incurable virus, I encourage you to "have a go".

Most who think they are fast and have not been on a track do not realize what their cars can really do, how much better track is than street, and probably won't speed as much on the street due to knowing how much safer, smarter, and faster track racing is. Spend $$ on track time vs. car upgrades and you will be a much better driver than those w/the bolt ons and no experience on the track. Enjoy, it is very addicting.....

Ha ha ah, reminds me of my first Autocross. Before I thought I was a really good and fast driver. Finished the event 2nd....from last. The only person that did slower lap times was a girl that kept getting lost. After a year I was the one to beat though.

You know you got the smooth down when you set fast lap by 5 seconds in the rain!

It is really eye opening isn't it?! Thankfully I had raced moto-X for a couple of years and had ridden hard for nearly 2 decades before I hit the track in my 928 so I was at the front of the green group, but then I saw the Blue and yellow and heaven forbid the red and white groups and I KNEW how slow I really was! Not so much anymore! LOL! So, then you go to door handle to door handle racing and guess where you start... yup, very near the back! LOL!

Sounds like to much fun with a whole lot to learn!

Thanks guy's. If things go according to plan I will be out there this spring in Atlanta. I closed on my house and the money is in the trust. Now I just have to get them to give me some. They like to hold onto it and charge me fee's!

There's an event at Roebling Road in March and Savannah is a great place to visit and hang out.. Be sure to give me a shout when you get moved. I make it to events at Road Atlanta, Roebling and Barber Motorsports park as often as possible. Barber is a real treat in itself!

Classic One of my favorite movies. I got to meet Gene in Greenwich CT. His wife Gilda had passed and he was running a fund raiser (Tennis Pro/Am) to purchase a Brownstone in NYC so that family members of cancer patients would have a place to stay. They had the cast of SNL there, the old cast minus Belushi of course. I played w/ Gene and we lost in the semi's. It was a blast and the party after was open bar and a absolute blast. They were all to funny to drink with. I would have played in it for nothing!

What struck me was how much in love he was with his wife and he was consumed by her. Very sweet and inspiring.

We should all be so fortunate to find love like that in our lives.

Stephen
