Here is a picture of venting - I don't believe it was installed stock - but should have been given the battery box configuration... these type batteries all have vents - usually at both ends - if it has 2 vents you need to vent both to be effective (together or seperately).

That hold-down started earlier than just S4 and up. My '83 has the same one and it's very effective.

+1 on venting the battery, too. Both are important safety matters.
