New 928 Rumors

So I heard the new 928 will have a V10 650hp motor. I found a few nice pictures and I hear it’s going to be about 150K all said and done with the big motor. What have you guys heard? I hope to park one next to my 78.

I hope it is a better example than the Panamera. It will likely be just a 2 door version of it. There are many threads with pictures here on this topic (we call that an "enzo";-)

The V-10 (Audi?) Sounds interesting. Hard to imagine VW would beuild such directly competing models.

The Panamera is a cool car just wish they offered a stick shift in the US like they do in europe.

It will be front engine compared to the mid mounted R8 V10. I would think Porsche to produce it's own motor. Also why would VW mess with Porsche they make the most money per car in the world I think avg is like 26K compared to the 2nd best being BMW about 2600.00.

You can paste a link without being a member. You just can't upload them.

While it's not likely that VW/porsche will ever admit to cooking the books the last few years, it intrigued me that a car company could claim profits greater than revenues. That kind of accounting is what kept the 'family' name from being PORSCHE/vw. Part of the joy of being a privately-held company was not having all those GAAP rules and reporting requirements. They can be so inconvenient. Just ask those Enron guys. Smartest guys in the room they said.

Now back to yor regularly-scheduled programming...

Porsche have their own V10 - used in the Carrera GT. Wouldn't need to use the parent company's one.

A de-tuned version of the CGT's 5.4L V10 would be awesome.

yep cgt's motor not very detuned 604-650 hp. Why not they have the motor drive train and the body develped. Looking to be 150K I found pictures and will post it up for everyone to see.

George V sent me this pic from a Greek magazine that he was reading online that was specifically about the upcoming Porsche 928, and called it by that name. They were saying it'd be out by 2012. If that is the look of the rear, it has better looking tail lights than the Panomera, even if that's a photoshopped pic. If they did call it the 928 by number, that would break with Porsche calling everything by a name and not a # for the past 10+ yrs. The guys at Brumos told me last year it will be called the 2 door Panamera, that there is no way it will be named the 928 cause Porsche has changed from that direction of using #s with new models. They also said it'd be out in 2011-12.

Ya I was thinking that too but from what I'm reading it will be called the 928. Again I hope it will come with a stick shift I'll be inclined to by the v10 with a stick shift when they do come out.

The one thing you can be sure of is that when it comes - based on the Panamera platform - it will NOT be called "928".

Porsche will never again touch that "name", nor will it ever build a car as radically forward thinking as the 928 was at its time.

Whether a coupe or cab based on the Panamera comes first, expect it to be as non-controversial as a Porsche can be.
