Agree with Tom, the mounting depth is a concern, but if they work for you...

Would be nice to find these retail at some place that will let you carry one out to the parking lot and check the fit.
Yes, the worked just fine for me proof is in the photos I have..

I would just get a set from a company that has a good return policy or do what I did and take some measurements and compare them with the specs sheets on the companies website. Good Luck!

Found a couple of DA dealers in my area, and their prices aren't too much higher than the net ($140 with tax at one place for the D343's), so I'm going to try and test the depth fit if they will let me.

Found an interesting page:

Here is a picture of the box clearly showing its a 4" component set. Maybe Diamond Audio is no longer making them?? I measured my stock speakers again and they are close to 1.75" deep. Seem's odd Porsche would make such drastic changes from model year to model year on speakers.

So far they seem to be good speakers. I like the sound of them. They remind me of the Kappa's I have always bought in the past.

Excellent I just bought 2 sets. One for me and one to sell. Got a great deal on them. Kappa's are my favorite speaker. I do like the JBL titanium tweeters too.

I've got a local DA dealer trying to track down a set of D343's, so that I can test fit them before buying, but so far no luck.

Picked up a set of these speakers locally today but they are a previous discontinued model, D342's. The specs seem about the same as the D343's.

The grill on these is even closer to stock than the D343's since the logo is black and silver instead of red. I'm amazed at how close to stock the larger grill looks. It will be nice not to have to worry about the 24 year old grill ring breaking as they often do.

On the tweeter, I had to pop the old one out, which destroys it, and dremel a recessed area in the original plastic front face, maybe 1/4" deep, 1" diameter for the new tweeter to sit in. I hot glued it in place and put the original tweeter grill back on over the new tweeter, which has it's own much smaller grill.

Haven't mounted the crossover yet. There doesn't seem to be any good flat surfaces to stick it to, but I guess I'll figure something out, maybe with some thick double sided tape.

I don't have the door back together yet, so the jury is still out on the sound, so I won't make any comments yet.

Got both my sets off ebay. D342's. I need a set of tweeter grills anyone have any? Also can someone measure their tweeter grills so I know what size I'm looking for? Thanks

The outside diameter of the ring that holds on the tweeter grill is 3 13/16"

Forgot to mention that the outside diameter of the larger DA grill is almost a 1/2" larger than the stock grill, so it doesn't fit exactly into the recessed area left by the stock speaker. That said, it looks pretty close to stock, and after you get the screws tightened down, it does compress into the door panel foam pretty well and seems to work ok. Maybe that's why some web pages called these 4.5" speakers.

Still trying to get my door panels back together with the new speakers, and fixing some other door panel/window issues while they are out.

(BTW there's a set of these speakers for $47 on ebay right now, new)

I spent all day finishing the door speaker install as well as installing an 4 channel Orion/Cobalt amp (sits in the spare tire) and a 10" Kicker Sub in a box behind one of the rear seats.

At first I wasn't sure about the sound of these speakers, but after upgrading the head unit, getting the door panels back on, and connecting them to a good amp, I must say I am very pleased. The tweeters are not overpowering at all but have a nice crisp sound. I don't expect much bass from a 4" speaker, but they provide very good mid range, and the stock 6" rears fill in the mid bass range nicely, and of course the sub handles all the serious base. Great to finally have awesome sound in my car.

As for the mounting depth of these speakers, reguardless of the specs, they definately work. Not sure if the back of the magnet is touching the metal or not, but I haven't heard any rattles and I've been driving them hard this evening. The magnet back is a hard plastic material, so it may not matter if they touch a little.

So after completing the install, I definately recomment these speakers. I did have a minor problem with the new grills falling out on the 4" speaker, but putting a slight bend in a couple of places on the the grill edge fixed it.

Dan, sorry if we've hijacked your thread, but at least we are talking about the same DA speakers and adding new opinions on them. I'm glad I pulled the trigger on them, so thanks for the info!

I installed an Orion Cobalt 304 4 channel amp from a previous family car I sold. I've had it for years and it just keeps going. Very clean amp and fairly small. Not super powerful, but still very capable. I found that by grinding off a little metal from each corner, it fit perfectly in the spare tire wheel.

Have the front speakers driven from the amp, the sub is driven from the amp, of course, using the rear channels bridged, and the rear stock speakers are driven from the head unit amp.

I highly recomment getting a sub. It adds a whole new dimension to your sound, even if you listen at normal levels.
