Sooo... 1986 928s, flag mirrors. The driverside works perfectly. The passengerside will adjust 3 of the 4 directions. I can't lower it down enough to use properly. If I manually lower to focus, it will migrate up enough to be useless.
Question, can I open the unit up and readjust the position or do something else easy? I presume the problem is the motor, because the switch works the driverside. Any ideas?

i have found the the motors are usually to blame one of the directions burns out i have found the buick roadmaster wagon motors fit in with little fighting and seem to work forever even the plugs for the wires are the same

I had a similar problem that was caused by a failed wire in the door. The cable harness moves inside the door when the door is opened and closed, which fatigued the wire over time.
