Default Classic Motorsports Mag: 928 Buy It Now!

Not sure if this is an enzo yet or not, but I received my November 09' issue of Classic Motorsports Magazine yesterday. There is a little hint of 928 goodness in the Auction Action section [pg 39]

Title: Better Buy It Now: 1987-91' Porsche 928S4
QUOTE:
We know they can cost a small fortune to fix. We know that Ferry Porsche never liked the 928. And we know the 928 was the failed attempt to replace the 911. However, we're also aware that the 928S4 is a true supercar on par with those from Aston Martin and Ferrari. Right now you can scoop up a nice 928S4 for a little as $10,000. Buy a good one and you'll have a car that is more reliable than its aforementioned British or Italian competition.
END QUOTE:

Interesting stuff...

The solution is simple: You can't have just one.

"Ferry Porsche never liked the 928"? I thought it was quite the opposite?

I did too.
Why would the engineering team choose to make a custom 928 as a birthday present for him if they knew he didn't like the model to begin with?

Classic Motorsports and Grassroots Motorsports have been known to fail a fact check or two. Nice publications though.

I still can't understand why the 928 depreciated the way it has given its competition is equally as challenging and costly to maintain. It's not like $100,000 cars from that era faired any better, lasted longer or cost less to maintain. The article is right, a good condition S4 is a substantial bargain compared to a comparable-era Aston or 328gts... but I question whether the market will ever come back up - and I'm not sure why it went down so far in the first place.

I think the market will come back for the nice examples both restored and original.

The Ferrari's and Astons are typically maintained better and in overall better condition than many 928's which might explain part of the difference in current costs. The other is probably related to supply/demand.

So true... they sold fewer GTS's than any other 928 which reflects in the prices vs. the older cars, so maybe the same holds true for 928's vs. other cars - the higher number of 928's sold over its 18 year might explain the price difference.
