I noticed the same thing as well with the 911s having mainly autos. It's the same every week. Don't know if it's a case of having to drive in heavily congested traffic all the time, or what, but you'll rarely see a late model 911 with a manual transmission noted.
oups59, thanks for posting the prices. I presume the green GTS didn't sell?

Both RHD and LHD Japanise cars are mainly Japanise models meaning they have all the specs needed for Japanise car from the factory. There are two different option codes for them.

Japanese are picky about LH- vs RHD cars.
If a car is designed and built as a LHD (eg Porsche), the Japanese will buy it as a LHD car, understanding that the LHD model is "properly" designed as such. And that the RHD is designed as an after thought.
Even though Japan is a RHD country.

The fender flares look like they are put on with a Tenax fastener into the skirt area of the bodywork. I see something that looks similar to a Tenax fastener on the pearl car.
We also have the "collector" plate in TX for cars that are over 20 years, but I think the fed is the problem with importation. Don't know how the states license the car that doesn't have DOT approval when brought in from out of the country. I'm betting they would want to see the DOT compliance from an RI, but maybe not. Since WI is so close, it would be an interesting test. Once it had a pink slip from WI it could technically be moved to any state.

Doc,
You are right on... Department of Transportation, and the Environmental Protection Agency are NOT, I repeat, NOT going to let you take any car you bring in from another country home to your house no matter where you live or what you promise till you have paid them via a Registered Importer and paid them WELL I might add!
Trust me, if you have not imported a car from another country before on your own then you really shouldn't be making comments about what you don't know! I HAVE DONE IT...PERSONALLY! EVERY STEP OF THE WAY...wrote a long article about it too...

Those are a very interesting prices... how difficult would it to have the car registered in Canada and then taken into the US as tourist car? So I could buy a 1995 GTS, have it shipped to Canada for less than $15k, register it in Canada for 10 years and then import it to the US as a 25 year old collectors car?
You could probably do that... the problem might be keeping the Canada registration up to date and legal for them (the Canadians if you were not living there or a land owner/home owner there), but I bet that would work... Long road... at the end when you FINALLY got your US registered GTS it would probably be cheaper to have just bought one here in the states along the way, but you won't know that break point till you fly by it, and right now the market might favor a Japan buy...weak dollar is NOT in your favor though... actually I have not compared it to the Yen, so maybe you are not to bad on that point. Shipping will still be costly and I am sure there are more than a few Canadian hoops that will cost $XXXX to jump through too!

James,
My roommate in College was from Quebec and he had no issues bringing and driving his car in the US for four years. He drove the car back to Quebec in Summer and for Christmas but I never asked if he had to reregister the car or anything. I was hoping to have someone register the car in Canada and I keep it in the US. Anyone knows "anyone" that has done it?

Gio,
As a student his "permanent" residence would have been Canada so he would have had no problems. Same would be true if you had a "vacation home" and claimed the car was registered there but then kept it here.
I was just saying if you didn't have access to a "permanent" Canadian residence for your car (regardless of where it is "stored") it would be a difficult proposition to stay ahead of.

There is an ebay seller that "claims" at least to have a system of bringing the cars into the US. My guess is that its a typical import and registration in Canada, then washing the title using a bill of sale etc. in a friendly state, then to the final state once it has a US title etc.
I don't think this would fly in Calif, maybe a few other states. Not legal, but maybe it works.
OTOH all the risk is going to be on the buyer, and until you have it registered and past whatever state inspection is required you won't know if it will fly or not.

The prices are not that far off from U.S wholesale prices,
Low miler bought that silver 93 GTS in AZ that needed paint for under 20k
Exclusive Motors would have sold that purple GTS for low 20's
You would be better off finding someone in the U.S with a dealers liecense to bid on the cars already here.
This GT did not sell on Ebay with a min bid of $16k and now is relisted,

Lots of deals here why import?

As an owner of a Japanese 928 that has been a money pit, I've often said that you'd be much better off with a local vehicle. You can research the history and get a PPI done. That being said, some of these cars being offered really appeal to the eternal optimist in me.
oups59, can you find out the price on the green one after tonight's auction?

but you are right concerning the maintenance records, you need to be able to verify them.
For example, the green GTS, mention on the previous post, has maintenance records. The last one was on sept. 2008 at 103,000 Km. It should sell for less than 1,000,000 yens
