No, I have a 928 that cost $3211.00, runs and drives like a dream, with $1000 worth of 996 wheels that came on it. :P Oh, it had a trans that slipped when I bought it too. Turns out it was down on fluid.

Seriously, what's your problem? Did a guy with a slipping transmission steal your girlfriend?

From what I've learned so far, possibilities:

Level.
Old fluid / occluded filter. (Try a filter change and fluid change if level adjustment doesn't fix it)
B2 piston / seals. (hang-up, wear, binding, piston seal wear, breakage)
Valve body dirty
Valve body contains weak return springs
B2 band worn a bit, so a slightly longer actuator pin can be inserted. Buys some time.
Above can be done with transmission in the car.

Be patient. It will be worth fixing, even if it needs to be disassembled for renewing other frictions.

+1 I have had to contend with all of those things on my 722.4 trans. Very doable.

There was a nice little bit about upping the line pressure in this thread.

Nope no problem just many many more years dealing with 928s than you can imagine but you are right no point raining on his parade or yours for that matter.....enjoy your 928. I bought my old very brown 1980 for $1,800 eight or so years ago and have driven it hard as possible on track every since. Just note eight years have passed which might imply that a 1988 is NOW possibly worth $1,800 .....
