8" H4's - Availability in Germany???
My nephew is in the Army and stationed in Germany right now. I've been hunting, though not very hard, for 8" H4s. I wonder if anyone knows how to find out if there are any available over in Germany that he may be able to pick up for me and send back to US.
Just thinking they may be more used ones available over there, though don't know a source.
Any ideas???

Glen, I heard good feedback for these guys http://www.autoahrens.de/impressum.html
Don't know if they have used parts though.
I can ask for you on the German board. Are you looking for just the lenses? Most for sales I see here include the whole assembly.
Btw since you so specifically mention 8": are there different sizes?

Aryan,
I'll check out the link you provided.
I am looking for the whole 8" H4 assembly, lens and buckets to swap into my MY85 replaciing the 7" with chrome trim rings.
In the US they used the 8" H5 which just puts out an ugly splash of light, not the nice crisp pattern in the Euro cars.
Thanks
Glen

Greetings from Wien, I think that before harassing your nephew with 928 part identification you need to take a look here http://www.dhl.de/de/paket/privatkun...paeckchen.html. The price for shipping to US is not so big and you can just shop for them on ebay.de, as pointed before.
Before purchasing, make sure the seller takes paypal, it's not so popular in this part of the world.

USA 928's were always fitted with horribly poor lights... up through 86 sealed beam 7" units with weak beam patterns, then finally (S4/GTS) 8" H5's with better patterns but not by very much...
The USA's archaic DOT lighting regulations prohibited selling cars with eCode beam patterns and manual headlight aiming devices. Even though these were demonstrably better in almost every possible respect, and in normal low beam driving are enormously better than any of the USA versions..
Many of us have improved our cars back to the original engineering intention - an easy retrofit... (H4's anyway).

HI Glen:
A friend of mine in Germany sent me a complete conversion set. The lights themselves are not enough - you also need the mounting hardware, including these fork like pieces they are mounted to.
And you will have to switch the electrical connector.
The headlight adjustment system cannot be retrofitted, from what I understand. At least not with reasonable effort. It was hydraulic in the early cars, and rarely works, so I hear. The newer cars - don't know what year they switched - have an electrical system that seems to be more reliable.

Nicole - there is no need to change the yokes to install H4's.
It would be possible to retrofit the hydraulic adjuster system but not easily - and they are notoriously unreliable in the long run, the electric system is a little easier to retrofit (though not for the fainthearted...) and is much more reliable.
The electric adjusters will work with all years as far as I know - to install them the yokes must be removed and reinstalled (but not changed).
I have done both.
