My updates for this morning

The car ran great with the O2 sensor disconnected. So far there is no starting or idling issues. I restarted the car at operating temperature after these videos and the idle was pretty steady at about 750. This was the same idle that the car had when I had completed the intake service.

I take it this means that I need an O2 sensor?

More pictures are below of my Temp II resistance read outs. I haven't included the idle/WOT switch ohm pics as everything was functioning according to the factory workshop manual. So the Idle and WOT switches are ruled out since everything there is within OHM specs!

My 14 Pin Connector before cleaning. Aren't ya'll jealous mine is still alive???

I cleaned it up with electrical contact cleaner, paper towel and compressed air. Everything looks shiny now. Sorry no pics of the after as I went straight to multimeter readings...

And no the intake isn't powdercoated. I painted it. One year and no chipping!

Temp II Terminal 1 @ 65 degrees Fahrenheit

Temp II Terminal 2 @ 65 degrees Fahrenheit

Temp II at EZK @ 65 degrees Fahrenheit (it says 2.96, sorry for pic's flash!)

Temp II at LH @ 65 degrees Fahrenheit

Nice videos Andy, I would suggest the O2 get replaced best to get a factory part as you wont have to cut the wires and then worry about the air feed in the wires when they are attached , unless the special connectors are used.
For the hot post the thick red wire should have a piece of heat shrink put on it, see the cut in the insulation, also the 14 pin connector pins look dirty clean with a eraser and then open the back of the top portion and see if the smaller wires are shedding their insulation

I'm diving back into it this afternoon for a dedicated 14-pin cleaning. I'm feeling a lot more sense of accomplishment than rampaging cursing sputtering dissatisfaction as before

Hi Andy,
Your videos look good ! BTW the somewhat higher idle speed is normal when water temperatrure hasn't reach normal running temp. Around 950rpm IIRC, then reducing to 675rpm when at running temp.

You won't have O2 adaptation working with O2 disconnected, but there will be a brief idle adaptation sequence, so fast that you probably wouldn't notice it, as your MAF is new.

Do you think your O2 sensor was damaged when you had the earlier running problems ? Or do you think that those 14way connections may have been responsible ?

John,

I put a thread up awhile back saying I was running on 4 cylinders. One of the ignition coils failed on me in the middle of the freeway and I managed to get the car to the side of the road without catching anything on fire. I never replaced the O2 sensor after that. My theory is that it could have been damaged when I had raw fuel going into and out of the exhaust.

I'm pretty sure my cats are fried too.

Andy, I have a used o2 sensor from a 1988 that you can try. If it works, paypal me $25. If it doesn't, send the part back. I already have it removed so I can mail it Monday morning.

I would drive it for a bit with the O2 disconnected just to ensure there isn't an intermittent electrical problem that stopped acting up when you were working on the car.

Congrats Andy!

I watched the YT video and once finished it offered up a series of other related videos. One of them was the 20 Minute Workout with the Naked Sailor" I am not kidding. Any affiliation? Hilarious!

Could someone tell me how to embed a YT video inside a post.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2dVBDTGsrFk&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&feature=player_embedded&fs=1 "></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2dVBDTGsrFk&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&feature=player_embedded&fs=1 " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Bracket the letters yt with these []. Then, cut and paste everything after the equal sign. Then, bracket /yt with these [] with no spaces.

I did this for the first time a few days ago. All you need is the identifier for the video surrounded by {yt} {/yt}. All the other settings are ignored by the Rennlist server.

EG: [yt]2dVBDTGsrFk[/yt ]
