I've been talking to a guy on another car site who has a Red/black 86.5 5-speed with 52K miles that's been in storage for a couple of years. I'm trying to convince him to get it back on the road and that it's a highly desirable model. He asked mow many 5-speeds there were that year. From the master VIN thread I see that there were 2010 U.S. 86.5's, but obviously no data on the # of manual cars.
Any ideas?

I figured that there'd be roughly 500-700, given a 25%-35% incidence of 5-speeds, but that's a total WAG.

People who want a 5 spd 928 exceed the number of available cars, but I think more people still prefer an AT to a 5 spd, we 5 spd types are just the squeaky wheels.
OTOH I think Mason just offered up his 86.5 5 spd for $7500 and hasn't sold it yet.
Kind of a shame for any 928 to sit in storage.

I have logged down 399 '86-'86.5 and have a total of 91 5 speeds, and only 59 of those are '86.5s.
I own two of those, oh and by the way; '86.5 rules!!!!!!!!!!!!

How ironic, just looking at this 86.5 in Miami ... http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/cto/1667300004.html. No affiliation, just seems pretty nice.
The owner sent some pics, here's one of the interior:

I've had 6 86.5's of those, 3 were 5 spd. All 5 spds had LSD. It is a hell of a car....
People don't believe how fast they are..... The cam profile of the 85-86 responds extremely well to minor flow enhancements, and rewards with big power. It's the classic muscle car of the 928 world.... second is the euro IMO

The real classic muscle cars are the pre 86.5 32Vs. Hi hp engines (288hp is not accurate) with only S brakes. A muscle car should have a powerful engine and crappy brakes.
