My New 1978 Five Speed Euro ***Update*** She Runs!
A friend (Legoland951) found this car at auction for me a couple of weeks ago: It is a 1978 Euro five speed with b & w Pascha (sp?) interior. Manual seats. CIS 4.5 motor. Cup 1 replicas with unused Yokohamas. The car's odo reads 112, XXX. I am not sure of the color name. Maybe someone can enlighten me.
Interior is mostly stripped. Car is missing back seats, door panels, and carpets for sure. Option code sticker is nowhere to be found. Ignition has been pulled and there are no keys.
Exterior has a rust spot on PS rear quarter (pic). Front PS fender has baseball sized dent (pic). Both rear quarter windows are missing. The front bumper has some minor damage by PS, below headlight (pic). All of the exterior trim was carefully removed
Fuel pump is dangling, there is a new fuel filter at the RR wheel well. The CIS pressure gauge was attached to the fuel delivery system at a hard line in front of the motor. The fuel smelled very old. The tank is hanging just a bit too.
If the 1980 US motor turns out to be a dud, I will try to start this one and use it in the 1980. First, I will have to learn some CIS basics - looks like area 51 to me. If the other is no good, I will hope this one is. If all is well with the other drive-train, this one may become a track car. The same goes for the 5 speed.
If nothing else, I have a car with an installed drive-train to use as reference for my work on the 1980.
Here are some pictures of the car and some of the goodies that were in the car including: Breather kit, NIB oil filter, CIS specific fuel pressure tester, Momo wheel and hub (wheel is separating a bit), new pads and slotted rotors, good hood and hatch shocks, and new ignition wires.
Between Blythe's old interior and the 78, I have to get my *** in gear.

A couple more. What looks like two fuel lines and a gratuitous pic of the refinished dash that Karl Reuter gave to me.

That's black & blue pascha, not that it's savable. Faded so bad it's easy to mistake it for something else.
What's the VIN? I assume it's not early or you would have mentioned it.

Very pretty color, but that interior is serious daaaam.
Euro 78 and US 80 have about the same block, but the 78 is CIS and the 80 is Ljet, none of the fuel injection or intake will be compatible afaik or the wiring in the cars.

Sean mentioned that all is needed is to remove the CIS and intake and replace with US EFI and intake. I would use my existing intake, harness and computer should this motor turn out to be a better bet than the 80 motor.
I think the interior is has a bit more stripping to do. I have a race seat already . I would install a harness bar and belt/belts. That said, this is a mere twinkle in my eye. The purpose at this point is to help give life to the 1980.

Also, after staring at the photos, I think I see a blue hue in the fabric. Thanks for pointing this info out.

Thanks Mike. Do you know the name of the color?

The catch to that plan is the part you are thinking of swapping is the least likely source of it not running, essentially the block is the compression part of the spark, fuel, compression trio. Spark and fuel are the trouble makers.
If both have some problems, Ljet I think will be cheaper to sort out.
